HHS Abruptly Closes 'Migrant' Facility Holding Children After 'Mysterious Death' of Worker

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

A Houston-area “migrant” facility holding up to 500 illegal alien children was abruptly closed on Saturday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, according to several local reports. According to the local ABC News affiliate, a flurry of activity was seen at the shelter just before HHS announced the kids would be immediately transferred elsewhere or reunited with family or sponsors, just two weeks after the facility first opened.

An HHS official released a statement on Saturday.

“Today, HHS announced that all of the children in HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) care at the Emergency Intake Site (EIS) for Unaccompanied Children at the National Association of Christian Churches site in Houston, Texas, (NACC Houston) will be immediately unified with sponsors or transferred to an appropriate ORR facility.”

According to HHS, the “displaced” girls — ages 13-17, numbered between 450-500, as noted by The Blaze. Okay, that’s good to know. But what’s the reason for the abrupt closing of the facility — which HHS did not provide?

Here’s where it gets interesting.

Cesar Espinosa, director of immigrant advocacy group FIEL — For Families and Their Education — told the Associated Press there was an “incident” at the facility on Friday night, and police cars and ambulances were present outside the facility.

“There seemed to be a lot of confusion as to what was happening. The people that were there looked like they were in a sad stance, kind of with their head down and seemed like they were wiping tears away.”

Hmm. Espinosa, who had toured the facility, described its conditions.

“There was really no space for social distancing … they were only allowed to get up from their cot to use the restroom as well as to shower. Even their meals were delivered to their cots.

“Everything that was being brought in was temporary. The showers were temporary, they were bringing in temporary restrooms, so this space was not equipped to house anybody, much less, children.”

Did somebody die?

According to the Houston Chronicle, an adult HHS staffer died at the facility Friday night. HHS provided zero additional details.

Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX), of all people, claimed the worker died from a “medical emergency” that was unrelated to the migrant children and caused by underlying health conditions. “That was the only reason that there were ambulances there the night before,” Jackson Lee told the ABC News affiliate.

Yeah, no — nice try. If that were the case, why was the facility then closed within 24 hours?

Espinosa remains troubled by the series of events, telling the station he saw “desperation” in the girls’ faces when he toured the facility.

“If it’s shutting down, it still raises a lot of questions. It wasn’t an appropriate place to have the young girls.”

And worse.

“[The girls] were more treated like merchandise rather than treated as human beings, as people who just went through a very traumatic experience.

“I would not allow my 15-year-old sister to go and volunteer in a place like this because I don’t know what she’s going to see.”

Other sources told ABC that girls “were at times instructed to use plastic bags for toilets.”

That is disgusting. All of it. And questions must be answered and made public about the alleged death of the HHS staffer. Should we hold our collective breath until CNN — “The Most Trusted Name in News” — does an explosive exposé on this story? Let’s not.

And Plugs™? Did you catch his outcry after hearing the news? Me neither.

Speaking of President “Build America Back Better,” as my RedState colleague Nick Arama reported on Sunday, Biden has finally admitted that the “non-crisis” border crisis — that he purposely created — is, in fact, a crisis. That’s the good news.

The bad news? Biden’s solution to the Biden Border Crisis. He’s going to increase the number of illegal aliens allowed into the country.

“We’re going to increase the number. The problem was that the refugee part was working on the crisis that ended up on the border with young people. We couldn’t do two things at once. But now we are going to increase the number.”

That is mind-numbingly stupid. Then again, what are we to expect from a mindless “progressive” bot whose strings are pulled by the radical left? Rhetorical question.

Joe: “It hurts my head every time I hit it with a shovel. The obvious solution is to hit my head more frequently — and harder — with the shovel.”

Me: “Um, Joe?”

Joe: “Yeah, Mike?”

Me: “So why don’t you stop hitting your head with the shovel?”

Joe: “Are you serious? C’mon man! I can’t stop hitting my head with the shovel. Get real!”

Me: “Why not, Joe?”

Joe: “Because hitting my head with a shovel is part of my plan to build back my body even better than it was before the pandemic. Besides, not hitting my head — more and harder — with a shovel is racist. C’mon, man!

Me. “Never mind, Joe.”

As AP reported, HHS has rushed to open large sites to house “migrant” children across the Southwest amid a sharp increase in border crossings of unaccompanied kids. HHS’s lack of capacity as border crossings began to skyrocket at the beginning of Biden’s presidency has led to kids sometimes waiting for weeks in overcrowded and unsuitable facilities.

Ya think? Obviously, even greater numbers of crossings will do the trick — Democrat-style.
