ABC News Rewrites History, Says No Other Presidential Candidate in Modern History Has Refused to Concede

As the controversy continues over what appears at this point to be a tainted election at best, it sometimes helps — for me at least — to look for a bit of humor in the whole stinking mess. This morning I had to look no further than ABC News, who on Saturday beclowned itself by rewriting the history of presidential elections.

According to the noted presidential historians of ABC News, no presidential candidate in modern history has refused to concede an election — except for the megalomaniacal renegade, Donald Trump.

Just one — actually two — problem(s), but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Here’s how ABC News began its factually-incorrect hit piece on Trump, which is titled I am rooting hard for you’: As Trump remains defiant, here’s how past one-term presidents conceded.

As President Donald Trump remained defiant after Joe Biden became the apparent winner of the 2020 presidential election on Saturday, photos of the handwritten letter outgoing President George H.W. Bush wrote to President-elect Bill Clinton on Jan. 20, 1993, flooded social media.

Bush, the incumbent president who lost his bid for a second term to the Democratic governor of Arkansas after an intense fight, gave the heartfelt letter to Clinton on his Inauguration Day. He not only offered his advice, but expressed his support as his opponent moved into the White House.

“Dear Bill, when I walked into this office just now I felt the same sense of wonder and respect that I felt four years ago. I know you will feel that, too,” the letter began. “I wish you great happiness here.”

“There will be very tough times, made even more difficult by criticism you may not think is fair. I’m not a very good one to give advice; but just don’t let the critics discourage you or push you off course,” he continued. “Your success now is our country’s success. I am rooting hard for you. Good luck, George.”

Oh, please. Tissue, anyone?

Apparently, ABC News sat out both the 2000 and 2016 elections. Does Al Gore’s name ring a bell to you partisan clowns? This Twitter user wondered the same thing — and used an awesome hashtag to show his disdain.

These guys thought ABC was either asleep at the switch or being run by children.

This guy figured out ABC’s problem. Apparently, “modern history” conveniently began in 2001 in their Trump-loathing minds.

Yeah, obviously ABC News “forgot” about Gore. Here he is in the aftermath of the 2000 election, in which he faced George W. Bush.

“This morning we have proposed to the court in Tallahassee a plan to have all the ballots counted in seven days, starting tomorrow morning. And to have the court proceedings completed one or two days after that. Let me repeat the essence of our proposal today. Seven days, starting tomorrow, for an accurate count of all the votes. Once we have that full and accurate count, then we will know who our next president is and our country can move forward. […] I believe this is the time to count every vote and not run out the clock.”

Um, ABC?

After two recounts and Gore calling for a third before the Supreme Court stepped in, he finally conceded on December 13. So let’s fix ABC’s tweet for them.

There. No — wait.

Perhaps this is nitpicking, but given that Hillary Clinton is still whining about the 2016 election being stolen from her, blaming everything and everyone on the planet except herself, the “most qualified person to enter the White House in modern history,” according to Nancy Pelosi in 2013, never publicly conceded the 2016 election, choosing instead the day after the election to concede in a private phone call with Trump.

I make the distinction simply because ABC News, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, and the rest of the left-wing media continue to clamor for Trump to engage in some sort of demeaning form of self-flagellation in the proverbial public square and acknowledge to the world that Biden won the election. Now — or sooner.

So with Hillary in mind, let’s fix ABC’s tweet again.

There we go. “Elyot” and “BuckeyYinzer” summed it up for us.

The facts remain. Less than one week after the election, with report after report pointing to possible election fraud, it is not the business of the Democrat state media to tell Donald Trump when and if he should concede. That is his prerogative, not theirs.

Journalisming is hard, America. Especially when your hopelessly-predisposed biases get in the way of, um, journalism.
