On today’s episode of “As if We Needed Yet Another Reason to Dump on the NFL,” we find veteran Fox Sports announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman mocking a military flyover during the pre-game of Sunday’s game between the visiting Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at a mostly empty Raymond James Stadium.
(Obviously, that’s NFL Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin with Aikman, above, not Joe Buck — Joe’s picture proved to be elusive.)
As the jets flew over, here’s what happened.
“That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman said.
“That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work,” Buck sarcastically replied, in his purposely-exaggerated “announcer voice.”
“That stuff ain’t happening with the Kamala-Biden ticket, I’ll tell you that right now, partner,” Aikman assured Buck.
The Defector sports blog, which describes itself as “All of Our Bulls**t, None of Theirs,” loved Buck and Aikman’s take on the flyover — which was apparently the same as their take.
Like many people, Fox Sports broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman seem to see pregame military flyovers as wasteful and obnoxious.
For those with hearing loss, here’s the booth banter. Just imagine all of it said sarcastically:
JOE BUCK: Welcome to Big Noon Saturday!
TROY AIKMAN: That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover.
BUCK: That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work!
AIKMAN: That stuff ain’t happening with [a] Kamala-Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that right now, partner.
Even Troy Aikman, with his stilted jokes, can grasp how pointless a flyover is. All the more reason to banish them for good and reduce the NFL’s military cosplay by just a little bit.
Reduce the “military cosplay,” but cosplay to your pandering heart’s delight at the altar of Black Lives Matter, right, guys? So “woke.”

Former Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill of “I killed bin Laden” fame was among those not taking kindly to Buck and Aikman’s comments..

Coupla Questions.
Why do that? What do you have to gain by alienating fans who found your mocking comments disgusting? Ratings aren’t exactly at a premium these days, right? And you do that?
What, you weighed that against gaining even more cred with the “woke” crowd? If so, kudos for that, you pandering clowns.
And the “Kamala-Biden” plug? What was that? Although I did like the order; at least you were honest.
Here’s the thing. I already know what you’ll now do — if you haven’t already done it — the next time you take to the booth. You’ll claim you weren’t bashing the military, at all, particularly those who serve — and that your comments were directed solely at the cost of such flyovers, and what a waste of money and resources you think it is.
Fine, let’s run with that.
But here’s the other thing. If that is what you’ll claim, there would’ve been a helluva lot better way to do it, don’t you think? Rather than in mocking terms? Let alone a plug for the “Kamala-Biden” ticket? Poor form, guys — regardless of what your intent was.
A final note.
Some on social media have suggested that Buck and Aikman were mocking the Left vs. military flyovers, arguing that Buck has been praised in the past for keeping politics out of sports, while Aikman has donated to Republican political campaigns, including those of presidential nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney.
Both of those statements are true.
But my take is, if that’s the case, the sarcasm was lost on most who heard it. IMHO, both of these guys at least came across as genuinely disdaining the flyover, with Aikman playing the “Kamala-Biden” card.
I’d like to be wrong, mind you — I just don’t think I am.
