When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) speaks, people listen. Many, for entirely different reasons than others. But one thing is clear among us all. When AOC speaks, we wonder what the heck she’s talking about. Moreover, the more she talks, the more we wonder.
Such was the case on Tuesday morning when Alex from the Bronx™ took to Twitter to pontificate (whine) about members of her own party trying to “repackage” the ridiculous “Defund the Police” drive by so-called “progressives” in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
How, and why, you ask? Let’s go to the tweets.
In the first of four tweets, AOC took a shot at describing what progressives mean by calling for the defunding of America’s police departments. Not only did she fail, miserably; she appeared to be calling for more money — for “black and brown” communities vs. white communities, that is — including for police.
“Defund” means that Black & Brown communities are asking for the same budget priorities that White communities have already created for themselves: schooling > police, etc.
People asked in other ways, but were always told “No, how do you pay for it?”
So they found the line item.

Confused? Don’t be. Fortunately, we have a handy AOC-to-English translation tool, here at RedState.
Given the reaction of sane people across America to the Left’s call to defund — eliminate — city and state police departments, AOC suggests that “lots of DC insiders” (terrified Democrat lawmakers and party officials) are concerned about the language of those demands.
So as is the case with all good Democrats, it appears that the party hierarchy is pushing to slap lipstick on the police-defunding pig — no double entendre intended — and AOC isn’t having any of it.
Lots of DC insiders are criticizing frontline activists over political feasibility and saying they need a new slogan.
But poll-tested slogans and electoral feasibility is not the activists’ job. Their job is to organize support and transform public opinion, which they are doing.

Then, as the erstwhile bartender is wont to do, AOC went full-blown progressive gobbledygook about “policy makers” and “mandates”, “creating pockets”, “pitchers and catchers” and stuff — while making it clear that Democrats won’t “undercut important work.” Or something.
Our job as policymakers is to take the public’s mandate and find + create pockets to advance as much progress as possible.
Progress takes a team of different roles. You don’t criticize a pitcher for not being a catcher.
We can respond in ways that don’t undercut impt work

So who is it that AOC says “people” (worried congressional Democrats and party officials) are “scrambling to repackage” the “whole conversation” to “make it palatable” for? “Largely affluent, white suburban ‘swing’ voters” — and again, she’s not a happy camper.
And by the way, the fact that ppl are scrambling to repackage this whole conversation to make it palatable for largely affluent, white suburban “swing” voters again points to how much more electoral & structural power these communities have relative to others
Just for awareness!

So here’s the thing.
Our intrepid Socialist-wannabe disdains the thought of her party placating affluent white suburbanites, but in doing so, she fails to understand a foundational tenet of the Democrat Party. Everything it supports, opposes, wants to create, or wants to destroy can be connected to the ballot box with no more than two dots.
Here’s the other thing.
Lipstick, or not, AOC, that “defund the police” pig ain’t gonna fly.
