Marco Rubio Still Thinks Donald Trump is a "Con Artist"

One of the weirdest things I have yet seen this election season is Marco Rubio’s attempt to square the things he said on the trail about Donald Trump and his willingness to vote for and endorse Trump’s candidacy. For instance, one of the things he said about Trump was that he called him a “con artist.” Rubio was asked today if he stood by that remark (and all the other remarks he said about Trump), and he said, yeah, sure, but I’m still voting for him:

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is standing by his description of Donald Trump as “a con artist,” but he says in a new interview he still plans to support the real estate mogul for president.

“I’ve stood by everything I ever said in my campaign,” Rubio told the Miami Herald editorial board Monday when asked about his comments made during the Republican presidential primary earlier this year.

He said the race is “in a different place now” — with voters facing a “binary choice” between Trump and Hillary Clinton.

“In our republic, while the presidency is powerful, there is a balance of power in this country, and a significant amount of it resides in the United States Senate,” Rubio said. “It’s one of the reasons why I seek to run again.”

Eh. It seems to me that if a guy is an unstable con man, then you shouldn’t vote for him, nor encourage others to do so. That is not to say that you vote for his opponent, if she is worse. “I can’t vote for or support either of these choices” is a perfectly acceptable choice in America still today. And it’s a lot simpler than trying to explain why you’re willing to vote for someone you’ve called a con man.
