Rick Perry is Supporting Donald Trump Because he Doesn't Believe the Things Trump Says

This is just a truly remarkable phenomenon. It isn’t just Rick Perry by any means, it’s remarkable the number of people who support Donald Trump and will pretty much tell you that the reason they support him is that they assume he is generally lying. One of those people is Trump’s foreign policy advisor and possible VP pick Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who said in a remarkable interview in May that he defended Trump because he didn’t believe the things that came out of Trump’s mouth less than 24 hours earlier.

The latest to enter this particular fray is former Texas Governor Rick Perry, who attempted to play the good surrogate today, only to have to immediately walk it back less than two seconds later.

“I’m for Donald Trump, and he says we’re going to build a wall, the Mexicans are gonna pay for it,” Perry told Snapchat’s Peter Hamby.

Hamby remarked, “It’s not going to happen.”

Well, it’s not,” Perry said, explaining, “It’s a wall, but it’s a technological wall, it’s a digital wall.”

Perry, who is supporting Trump, commented, “There are some that hear this is going to be 1,200 miles from Brownsville to El Paso, 30-foot high, and listen, I know you can’t do that. “

You know who doesn’t know you can’t do that, and who is still saying that he will, in fact, do that? Donald Trump. He hasn’t just claimed this in an offhanded comment, he has repeatedly and vociferously rejected the claims that his wall will be “virtual” or that he doesn’t mean that he will actually build a physical wall.

It’s just astounding. If your defense of your candidate’s cornerstone policy is “well, I don’t think he means it” or “we all know he can’t actually do it,” then why on earth would you be supporting such a candidate in the first place?
