Girl Scouts of America Offers 'Muslim Badges' — Wait Til You Hear How to Earn Them

Fresh off a Muslim foot-washing controversy that ended in the Texas governor threatening legal action and DFW airport backing out, we’ve now got a real doozy of a story about the Girl Scouts.

Now, when you think of the Girl Scouts, you might remember your childhood in the 80s, when badges were given to young girls for outdoor adventuring, wildlife watching, and even baking cookies.

Indeed, the Girl Scouts became synonymous with peddling those addictive boxes of cookies, getting Americans hooked on Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwich Dosidos, and Samoas (mmm).

Nowadays, however, the Girl Scouts are apparently trying to get young recruits hooked on… Islam.

White House correspondent Natalie Winters recently highlighted a number of Girl Scout programs around the country that incorporate Muslim prayer, Ramadan observance, mosque visits, hijab instruction, and other explicitly Islamic activities.

This is not one troop.

“This is not one troop. Mosque-based programs operate in Sacramento, Naperville, Long Island, Virginia, Maryland, Brooklyn, San Diego, and more—embedding prayer, hijab rules, Ramadan, Islamic education and mosque outreach into Girl Scouting,” she reported.

There is a four-award Islamic recognition system. The medals themselves read "GIRL SCOUT OF THE ISLAMIC FAITH: Bismillah; In the Name of Allah; Qurat ul A’in; and Muslimeen."

“NICGS—not GSUSA—writes and administers the curriculum," she noted. "But GSUSA’s linked chart says it approved the programs and allows the insignia on official uniforms. NICGS says the awards emphasize "Theory and Practice of Islam" — including Quranic surahs and prayer meanings.”

Now, this is beyond ironic. For decades, "feminists" have been trying to mold Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. into an organization that fights the "patriarchy" and promotes LGBTQIA+ dogma. Here it is partnering with a totalitarian religious ideology that is responsible for repressing more females and gays than any other in world history.

This isn't an official GSUSA program, which gives it "plausible deniability." These programs are generally run through mosque-based troops, local councils, or outside Islamic organizations that partner with Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts of the USA officially recognizes religious award programs run by outside faith organizations. Its own materials point families toward the Islamic Committee on Girl Scouting, which offers religious recognition awards for “Girl Scouts of the Islamic Faith.”

That is a pretty dramatic shift from wildlife badges and cookie sales. Winters pointed to a February 2025 Girl Scout event at the SALAM Islamic Center in Sacramento, where girls were invited to tour the mosque, try on hijabs and learn about “the significance of modesty.”

The mosque itself describes its Girl Scout program as promoting “Strong Islamic Values.” It should not be missed that Muslim-majority nations with "strong Islamic values" are likely to be committing persecution and oppression of women.

Other examples include the Islamic Center of Naperville, the Islamic Center of Long Island, and Virginia’s ADAMS Center, where Islamic traditions and education have been incorporated directly into scouting activities. And this is not something that suddenly appeared last week.

A Girl Scout troop connected to PGMA in Washington, D.C., was advertising Ramadan overnight events more than a decade ago. Those programs included Islamic prayer, Quran and Hadith study, religious discussions, and service during iftar. Girls were told to bring prayer garments or hijabs along with Islamic educational materials. So this appears to be part of a longer-running effort to build faith-specific Girl Scout programming around Muslim communities.

That raises a bigger cultural question. The Girl Scouts have always had some relationship with religion. Christian troops, Jewish troops, and other faith-based groups have used scouting as an extension of their communities for generations.

But these are religions that preach tolerance and acceptance of gender equality, although there are certainly prescribed roles for husbands and wives, as well as motherhood.

This liberal culture cannot be sustained with the mass importation of foreigners with illiberal worldviews. Americans are increasingly being told that traditional national institutions must adapt themselves around the religious and cultural practices of growing immigrant communities. That is exactly what set off the recent DFW Airport fight over proposed Muslim ablution facilities.

Now the same debate is showing up in one of the most familiar childhood organizations in America. No one is saying Muslim girls should be barred from the Girl Scouts. But preaching a religion whose adherents are notoriously intolerant of "infidels" is where our institutions should draw the line.

Because when the Girl Scouts start offering badges for learning Islamic doctrine, visiting mosques and participating in hijab-related programming, the organization is no longer merely accommodating Muslim members. It is helping institutionalize Islam inside the Girl Scout experience itself.

This is yet another recipe for disaster. When it comes to the Girl Scouts hastening its cultural demise, that is exactly how the cookie crumbles.
