The Democrats' incessant smearing of Republicans as “fascists” and “Nazis” finally paid off.
An elderly couple in Arlington Heights, Illinois, had faced criminal charges for defacing the GOP headquarters in Wheeling Township on the night of January 25, 2026.
The couple, Broke McNerney, a 72-year-old retired financial planner, and his wife, Moisette McNerney, a 69-year-old retired special education teacher, confessed to the property damage and criminal defacement of property charges as per the plea agreement.
The pair was caught on surveillance video and later admitted they had drawn multiple swastikas and profanities in permanent marker on the GOP office.
They even vandalized the portrait of assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
They pled guilty to the charges on Thursday.

That may not be the worst part. As reported by The Daily Herald:
Cook County Judge Thomas Newinski sentenced the couple to 18 months court supervision, 100 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs. Newinski also ordered the couple to pen an apology letter to the Wheeling Township organization.
“We look forward to receiving the apology letter the court ordered. We hope it will be soon and we hope it will be sincere,” Wheeling Township Republican Committeeman John Saletta said. “The people in our organization deserve that.”
Weak.
The elderly couple had no prior record and took accountability for their actions, according to court records cited by the Daily Herald. However, a $100 fine is not a deterrent to those who would engage in similar criminal mischief.
The sentence is an insult to Americans’ intelligence, who know that if a couple had defaced a Democrat headquarters in such incendiary fashion, the book would have been thrown at them.
The judge essentially said it was “open season” on smearing Republicans.
Republican voters expect a vigilant defense of the party’s reputation in the face of dishonest vilification. If the party gets a chance to send a message to those who may subject voters to harassment or potentially even violence over ridiculous claims they are like “fascists” or “Nazis,” then you do it.
And defacing the memory of Charlie Kirk, who was only “guilty” of being effective at organizing young conservatives? That requires a stronger response.
The GOP headquarters vandalism is consistent with more prominent cases of left-wing vandalism.
As RedState’s Brandon Morse points out, the Reflecting Pool vandalism has become an “interesting gauge for how insane the left has gotten.”
In that case, however, U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro sent a strong message that vandalism of a public monument would not be tolerated, and offenders could face up to ten years in prison if found guilty.

However, Pirro's high-profile case against a former Olympic canoeist, David Hearn, is running into hurdles in the activist D.C. courts. Many of her cases, regardless of their merits, are being dismissed for what appear to be political reasons.
The rogue judiciary branch has been a constant source of "resistance" to the Trump administration, whether it be in terms of public policy or criminal sentencing.
This wanton destruction is being encouraged by the left’s misguided virtue signaling, and it is being aided by an activist judiciary that seemingly refuses to hold far-left criminals accountable.
