People of Color Hardest Hit

The President of the United States is under a tremendous amount of pressure lately. His economy is tanking, gas is spiking, education numbers are plummeting, inflation is exploding…there are a lot of terrible adjectives being thrown around his administration lately. He’s got a lot of work to do to turn things around, if that’s his intention at all.

No worries. The President is very concerned about *checks notes* airline fees, especially when it comes to how they *checks notes again* hit “people of color” the hardest.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m as sick of mounting and increasing airline fees as the next person, and since I am a “person of color” I suppose that means I am “marginalized” by those fees.

Apparently as a “person of color,” almost everything hits me the hardest.

COVID – people of color hardest hit.

Voter i.d. laws – people of color hardest hit.

Student loans – people of color hardest hit.

Climate change – people of color hardest hit.

It’s like a terrible Twitter hashtag game. Pick whatever mundane or even important subject you like, and add “people of color hardest hit” and POOF! You’ve got the moral high ground!

It’s the Queen of Spades in the race card deck, and what I find so egregious about it is not only is it offensive (more on that in a minute), it is cheating…obfuscation. It is employing a term that makes it seem like the person using it is Very Concerned ™ about minorities, while helping the user avoid the uncomfortable reality of what they are actually saying.

They’re not brave enough to say “white people are the only ones who don’t suffer.” They know that’s not true, and to say such a thing out loud, especially if you are a politician, sounds vile and dismissive and not a little bit racist. “People of color” only excludes one group…white people. There are no progressive politicians brave enough to say that truth, so they hide behind this phrase that denotes a type of empathy, but is really simple cruelty.

Just say, “Everyone except white people!” But of course, they can’t.

“People of color” is a cheat phrase. It’s a way of cheating the truth, but it’s also cheating black Americans. The term uses the unique legacy of the struggles of black citizens in this country going all the way back to slavery in order to lump every other minority group in with that particular legacy. It gives whatever political notion progressives are pushing at the moment the “strength of victimhood,” something that other “brown” people in America have not earned, insomuch as a thing like that can be earned.

It’s offensive from the Black Lives Matter worshippers. I wrote about why I loathe the term a few years ago, and my sentiments still stand.

Being a “woman of color” is not the same thing as being a Black woman, and yet the progressive Left has decided it is. A woman of Indian or Mexican heritage may possibly find herself coming up against some kind of discrimination here and there but it is not, nor will it ever be the same thing as what Black women have faced in this nation historically and to this day.

Not even close.

I resent having to tie my heritage to that of other people who may have no history in this country prior to 40 or 50 years ago; people who don’t have communities that still deal with the fallout of slavery, Jim Crow, and the bloody civil rights struggle. Why should Ayanna Pressley [of “The Squad” infamy] be forced to share the national stage with three other women whose communities and ancestors have absolutely zero ties to the struggles of Black Americans?

Democrats are knowingly trading on the legitimate grievances of black America in order to rope in the largest grievance base possible, and all to score political points. They have no intention of solving any problems, and particularly not for the black community, which they are working to effectively erase with their “people of color” nonsense.

There is so much disrespect and condescension wrapped up in that term. It is only compounded by their belief that just adding the term onto a thought constitutes caring or a political platform.

It is pandering in its worse iteration – a “white savior” mentality wrapped in a cloak of social justice.
