If Words Are 'Violence,' When Is Violence 'Violence?'

Townhall reporter Mia Cathell shared a stunning video on social media featuring the North Dakota man who is charged with vehicular homicide for the murder of teenager Cayler Ellingson.

RedState‘s Nick Arama reported on the incident earlier this week.

Eighteen-year-old Cayler Ellingson was hit and killed by a man driving a car in McHenry, North Dakota.

Now, that’s a horrible story, but the initial facts coming out on the case make it even more troubling: It wasn’t an accident.

Ellingson had been out at a street dance when he called his mother to rescue him, because he said he was being chased by 41-year-old Shannon Brandt. But by the time she reached him, Cayler was dead. What Brandt allegedly admitted about the killing was chilling.

Cathell has been following the case as it weaves through the justice system, and what she shared on Wednesday is truly shocking and pathetic. At his first court hearing, we can see Brandt pathetically begging the court for mercy because he has a family and a job and things he doesn’t want “to see go by the wayside.”

Life does have a tendency to get hard when you murder someone in cold blood.

Brandt’s act of violence was motivated by politics. He told authorities he murdered Cayler because of the teen’s Republican politics.

I’d like to ask the left: if words are violence, what type of violence is violence?

The progressive left’s favorite game is to pretend they are at risk of danger everywhere they go because of the mere existence of those dastardly Republicans. All those nasty Hitler Juniors™ are just a breath away from murdering the good-hearted liberals of America. Sure, Jussie Smollet was a lying fame-whore who made up the most ridiculous story of MAGA persecution to get a pay raise and an extra 15 minutes in the public eye; but it could have happened, so his lies were basically more like an experimental theater production, serving as a cautionary tale. THE MAGA MURDERERS COULD STRIKE FOR REAL AT ANY MOMENT!

It’s all projection. While they tell us that simply airing our political opinions is akin to murder because it enflames potential violence, their own ideological brethren are literally murdering conservatives or people they think are conservatives in some kind of weird liberal jihad. Remember the man who killed six people when he drove through a Christmas market in Minnesota? Remember the man who almost took Rep. Steve Scalise’s life because the media kept telling him Republicans wanted to kill poor Americans by gutting Obamacare? Remember the man who threw a child off the second floor of a mall because he didn’t like white people? Remember the scenes of innocent outdoor diners being attacked and harassed by Antifa and Black Lives Matters protesters?

The list goes on and on. We still don’t know what the motivation was for the Las Vegas rampage shooter, but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn he was a liberal hell-bent on taking vengeance on a group of people he perceived as Republicans.

The progressive left wishes words could really be considered violent, because they are the ones who support violence against their ideological opponents, and it bothers them that the right does not literally respond in kind. They are desperate to be the victims in their own story, so they have to make words into violence, while pretending the actual violence their lies and ignorance inspire does not exist.

Cayler’s life was taken by a man who was radicalized by the mainstream media, and that’s the real story here.
