Megan Rapinoe Says Parents Need to Get Over Themselves on Trans Athletes, Because 'Your Kid's Volleyball Team Just Isn't That Important'

Soccer star Megan Rapinoe says parents need to realize their children’s sports just aren’t “that important.”

The former Subway spokeswoman gave a recent interview in which she chastised parents for making a big deal out of trans athletes in girls’ sports.

“I would also encourage everyone out there who is afraid someone’s going to have an unfair advantage over their kid to really take a step back and think what are we actually talking about here,” the 36-year-old said. “We’re talking about people’s lives. I’m sorry, your kid’s high school volleyball team just isn’t that important.”

“And I think people also need to understand that sports is not the most important thing in life, right?” she continued. “Life is the most important thing in life.”

This coming from the woman who continues to pitch tantrums over the disparity in pay between male and female professional athletes, particularly when it comes to soccer.

Imagine being a young, minority woman from a modest or even poverty-heavy environment, playing your heart out on your high school volleyball team every week, knowing this is your best (and maybe only) shot at paying for an education. Athletics have been a way out of undesirable life circumstances and poverty for minority children for as long as we’ve had collegiate and professional sports. It takes quite a lot of self-absorbed gall to suggest athletics just aren’t that important to someone like that.

Privileged much, Megan?

I wonder if she feels the same about her own high school soccer team?

“Show me the evidence that trans women are taking everyone’s scholarships, are dominating in every sport, are winning every title. I’m sorry, it’s just not happening,” she said. “So we need to start from inclusion, period. And as things arise, I have confidence that we can figure it out. But we can’t start at the opposite. That is cruel. And frankly, it’s just disgusting.”

It only takes one bad apple to set the cart on a trajectory to totally tip over, Megan…and we have it. His name is Lia Thomas, and one day our grandchildren will shame and ridicule us for ever pretending that man was a woman, and then giving him awards for it.

Rapinoe isn’t known for her intellectual prowess, so it’s hard to find too much offense here. The really sad part of her statements is her total lack of self-awareness, and a disrespect for sports in general, from a woman who has made her entire career off the back of sports entertainment.
