Awards shows are serious business!

After the historically epic screw-up of the “Best Picture” award at last week’s Academy Awards, the accountants responsible for the envelope mishap were demoted from Oscar duty indefinitely. Apparently that wasn’t enough to satisfy the bloodlust of the Oscar-watching community.

TMZ is reporting that Pricewaterhousecoopers accountants Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz and their families have been receiving death threats since the incident. So many that the firm has hired bodyguards to accompany the two employees and their loved ones after pictures of their homes began circulating online.

Sources connected to the firm tell TMZ … PWC decided bodyguards were necessary for Brian CullinanMartha Ruiz and their families because of death threats they’ve received after their role in fumbling the Best Picture and Best Actress envelopes.

Some of the social media threats included, “You f****** idiot, i will f*** you every day” … and “I hope you get fired and get cancer.”

The mix-up was indeed shocking, but who knew people were so passionate about awards shows?

I would tell America to calm down but we’re currently nursing a serious case of Outrage-itis over a woman putting her feet on a couch in the Oval Office. “Calm down” is not in our national vocabulary right now.
