National Guard troops patrolling the streets in Washington, D.C., have garnered some extra attention this holiday season, after being spotted with a festive new “uniform modification.”
It all started with a post on Tuesday night on X, with a clip showing the back of a group of guard troops walking down the street together. While we couldn’t see the front of their uniforms, it was clear that on the top of their heads each had donned a red and white Santa hat.

“National Guard wearing Santa hats while patrolling in DC.,” the post read.
Not long after, independent journalist Nick Sortor reposted the clip and wrote the following, “NOW: National Guard troops are patrolling DC wearing Santa hats. God bless these heroes for being away from their families for Christmas to protect our nation’s capital.”

And by Christmas Eve morning, even Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had seen the video and wanted to assure any of the Grinches out there that all was on the up and up with the merry adjustment to the traditional camouflage pattern design uniform.

Christmas also came a little early this year for President Donald Trump and his administration, with a win from the D.C. circuit in the ruling of National Guard troops deployment in the nation’s capital to deal with the out-of-control crime.
As my RedState colleague Susie Moore wrote:
President Trump and his administration chalked up another court win on Wednesday, as the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order granting the administration's request to stay a lower court injunction that enjoined the Trump administration from deploying or requesting the deployment of any members of the National Guard in the District of Columbia.
Moore pointed out that “the decision itself is per curiam." She also noted that this isn’t the end of the line for the ruling on guard troops in D.C., and wrote that D.C. “could always seek rehearing en banc.”
Now, while this combination of Christmas and the National Guard is sure to upset those Grinchies on the left, we choose instead to embrace this holiday for the joyous occasion it is. And will not focus on those who will surely be getting nothing but coal in their stockings for their ramblings about Trump and those on the right.
