“At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun," DHS told Fox News. "The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming."

"Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots," the statement continued. "Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement. About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement on the scene, crowd control measures were deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement."

"This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming,” DHS said.

ORIGINAL STORY

Multiple reports have come in showing what appeared to be federal officers shooting a suspect in Minneapolis, a city already at the heart of increased tensions between immigration enforcement and local protestors.

According to Bill Melugin of Fox News, an altercation between an unknown person and Border Patrol agents resulted in one of the agents shooting the person.

No details yet on who it was or what led up to the shooting.

Working sources and will update when I have more.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also confirmed to Fox News that the person was armed. Melugin also provided an image of the weapon.

Tensions Rising in Minneapolis

The city has been at the heart of tensions between anti-ICE protestors and federal officers sent in to target illegal immigrants as part of the Trump administration's push to remove them from U.S. soil. It is still roiling from the shooting of Renee Good, an activist who was shot and killed by an ICE agent she struck with her vehicle.

Democrats have blasted the ICE agent's actions, and protestors have become more aggressive in trying to interfere with ICE and Border Patrol operations in the city. Multiple Democrat officials, including Gov. Tim Walz, Mayor Jacob Frey, and Attorney General Keith Ellison, have defended the protestors.

This most recent incident has the potential to stir up more controversy, as sides are already forming online. Activists on the left are calling it another "murder" while voices on the right point to the DHS claim of a gun to justify the shooting.
