President-elect Donald Trump blasted Democrats on Thursday night, accusing them of voting for a shutdown.

In a brief statement, Trump said "Nearly every single House Democrat just voted against government funding and to shut down the government."

"These 197 Democrats voted against keeping the government open, disaster relief, and aid for farmers," he added.

Democrats voted overwhelmingly against the second attempt at a continuing resolution Thursday evening, joining a few dozen Republicans in the process. This CR was backed by Trump, who called for the new bill to include suspending the debt ceiling. This bill would have done so until 2027.

Vice President-elect JD Vance and other Republicans also blasted the second attempt at a CR.

"The Democrats just voted to shut down the government, even though we had a clean CR, because they didn't want to give the president negotiating leverage during his first term or during the first year of his new term," Vance said in a statement. "And number two, because they would rather shut down the government and fight for global censorship bull****. They've asked for a shutdown and I think that's exactly what they're going to get."

The deadline for passing some sort of spending bill is Friday night at midnight, though Congress is usually given some wiggle room when it comes to weekend deadlines. However, with legislators eager to get home for the holidays, there is more pressure than usual to bring this battle to a conclusion.
