BREAKING: Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger Passes Away

Henry Kissinger, who dramatically shaped American foreign policy during the Nixon Administration, has died from natural causes. Kissinger was 100 years old.

Kissinger was born Heinz Alfred Kissinger in Bavaria, Germany. A member of an Orthodox Jewish family, Kissinger emigrated with his family to New York in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, earning a Bronze Star.

After the war, Kissinger became a faculty member at Harvard University. He joined the Nixon Administration in 1969 as National Security Advisor, eventually assuming the role of Secretary of State under both Nixon and Gerald Ford.

During his time in office, Kissinger was heavily involved with the Paris peace talks that eventually brokered an end to Western involvement in the Vietnam War, He also broke through the Bamboo Curtain via secret negotiations with the People’s Republic of China that culminated in Nixon visiting China.

Kissinger was also involved in Middle East negotiations between Israel and Arab countries, most noticeably Egypt. He also worked in arms control negotiations between the United States and the USSR.

Kissinger was a lightning rod throughout his career, loved and loathed with equal fervor. Nevertheless, his influence on American foreign policy was undeniable, and reverberates to this day.
