Late Friday afternoon Axios posted partial audio from the interview Special Counsel Robert Hur held with now-former President Joe Biden, and it's brutal. As Axios wrote:

"Amid long, uncomfortable pauses, Joe Biden struggled to recall when his son died, when he left office as vice president, what year Donald Trump was elected or why he had classified documents he shouldn't have had, according to audio Axios obtained of his October 2023 interviews with special counsel Robert Hur."

The Axios piece was co-authored by Alex Thompson, who also co-authored the book "Original Sin" with Jake Tapper about Biden's mental decline - a decline Thompson and Tapper ignored until it was profitable for them to acknowledge it.

In the audio, Biden stumbles over his words and mumbles, and when he knows he can't answer something (or wants to cover up), he meanders off into talking about Beau.

We've known the contents of the audio for some time now, since the transcript had been released, but in hearing the audio it's abundantly clear that this man wasn't fit for duty.

As you'll recall, Hur declined to charge Biden with any crime related to the retention of classified documents because, in his view, he believed a jury would view Biden as simply "a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" and decline to convict him.

After the report was released, we learned that the White House tried to get portions of the report related to Biden's poor memory changed. The following exchange occurred during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, between Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Hur:

“Did the White House try to weigh in with your investigation on elements of that report and frankly try to get that report changed?” Jordan asked.

“They did request certain edits and changes to the draft report,” Hur answered.

“So is it correct that February 5th letter that was sent to you asking you to change references to the president’s poor memory — wasn’t there a request by the White House to do that?” Tiffany asked.

“There was a request, yes,” Hur replied.

Axios' report contains only one segment of audio, posted as an unlisted video on their YouTube page. Undoubtedly, as part of Thompson's book publicity, more sections of audio will be released.
