Trump Campaign Requests Recount in Wisconsin

As my colleague Brandon Morse reported, there was record voter turnout in Wisconsin and some very curious mail-in ballot results in Milwaukee County.

According to current results turnout seems to be around 90 percent, a massive increase over the typical 70 percent. However, despite some claims on social media, it doesn’t appear that there have been more votes cast in Wisconsin than there are registered voters. Prior to Election Day, the state reported having 3,684,726 registered voters, and the state also has same-day registration.

After a tumultuous night and morning, Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator told NBC News that all of the state’s ballots have been counted and that Joe Biden won Wisconsin by 20,697 votes.

About an hour after that appearance, Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien announced that they’re requesting a recount in the state.

Stepien’s statement reads:

Despite ridiculous public polling used as a voter suppression tactic, Wisconsin has been a razor thin race as we always knew that it would be. There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results. The President is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.

Many of us aren’t shocked that it’s an extremely close contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, but Democrats are amazed that they’re in this position. Remember, the traditional (and very wrong) pollsters thought Wisconsin was in the bag for Biden and predicted at least a 7 point win. Because of their reliance on what are undoubtedly unreliable sources, Democrats are sure to dispute any Trump victory in the state – which is another reason the polling industry as it’s currently constituted needs to be completely destroyed.
