The Green New Deal was up for a vote of support in the Senate today, and Sen. Mike Lee expertly mocked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (and Justice Democrats) pet project.
Lee’s opening set the tone for the rest of his remarks:
“Unlike some of my colleagues I’m not immediately afraid of what carbon emissions, unaddressed, might do to our environment in the near-term future or our civilization…I’m not immediately afraid of hat the Green New Deal would do to our economy….
“Rather, after reading the Green New Deal, I’m mostly afraid of not being able to get through this speech with a straight face. I rise today to consider the Green New Deal with the seriousness it deserves.”
He then launched into a satirical speech which, unsurprisingly, AOC and her fans failed to grasp. Ocasio-Cortez retweeted a pearl-clutching tweet about Lee’s posters, attempting to slam Lee for using his Congressional allowance to print an Aquaman poster “for himself.”
GOP Senators are using their Congressional allowances to print Aquaman posters for themselves to argue that a #GreenNewDeal saving our nation from climate change is a ‘waste of money’ 😂 https://t.co/iMNY0dJmCy

That’s quite the astute take.
She then returned to her normal tactic – victimhood. She tweeted that she occasionally suffers from “impostor syndrome” but that by watching Sen. Lee’s remarks she just knew her haters weren’t right because “if this guy can be Senator, you can do anything.”
Like many other women + working people, I occasionally suffer from impostor syndrome: those small moments, especially on hard days, where you wonder if the haters are right.
But then they do things like this to clear it right up.
If this guy can be Senator, you can do anything. https://t.co/vU4ChbTnnr

First, he’s not “Senator.” He’s “a” Senator. His professional accomplishments as an attorney are well-known; Lee clerked for Justice Samuel Alito both at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and at the Supreme Court, and was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Tenth Circuit. Lee also specialized in constitutional law and appellate litigation in private practice, and is highly respected in that community.
Her attempts to slap back remind one of a legendary scene in “Tommy Boy.”
AOC’s allies also went for the oppressed, victim angle and attempted to paint Sen. Lee as stupid.
Try to imagine for a second what would happen if @AOC went to the floor and did something like this.
This is from the GOP’s best and brightest https://t.co/G5aqVtAie6

This is one of those times where it’s best to encourage them to keep showing exactly who they are.
