On Monday, President Donald Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump, signed a first-of-its-kind executive order to strengthen research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care for women and girls throughout every stage of life.

The "Executive Order Advancing Women’s Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life" establishes the White House Women’s Health Task Force to "ensure the Federal Government pursues a comprehensive approach to women’s health that recognizes evolving health needs from infancy, childhood, and adolescence through pregnancy, midlife, menopause, and aging."

Brava.

As a woman who is in the later stages of my life, I can point to a litany of assumptions and failures from the medical community in those earlier stages that were less-than-helpful and caused undue complications in my life. I have been blessed that my health has never dictated more than minimal interaction or annual maintenance screenings with corporate medicine; but the women in my family and female friends have not been so fortunate. Many have suffered under the burden and weight of not just the yawning lack of knowledge about women and how our bodies respond in the different life and health stages, but have been given incorrect diagnoses and terrible treatments which served to complicate and prolong that suffering.

Let's hope this task force is a step in the right direction to end that. The task force promises to support "necessary policy and regulatory reforms to ensure timely and stage-specific prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care for women."

In her opening address, First Lady Melania encouraged:

"Now is the time. This is the time.

"This is a transformative moment for women in America. Beginning today, we will change the reality of women’s health.

"Previous generations fought for women's rights. Our generation will fight to discover the cures that will ensure a woman can live her life in health and to the fullest.

"The Advancing Women’s Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life Executive Order establishes a new standard for women’s health in America.

"We now possess extraordinary scientific capabilities, such as super intelligence, advanced biotechnology, and groundbreaking therapies. At the same time, social norms are changing, and topics that were once taboo are becoming open, well-informed, and necessary."

Melania outlined the very meaty focus for the first task force working session:

"This afternoon, the first task force working session will convene. As you embark on this important work, I ask you to keep in mind the priorities that form my 'First Lady’s Five Pillars of Women’s Health Innovation.'

"Start by directing research funding towards finding cures for diseases that affect women in a unique way.

"Second, use super intelligence to enhance our understanding of female biology and speed up medical discoveries- all to the benefit of women.

"Third, accelerate the process of getting promising therapies from laboratories to female patients, while still keeping strict safety standards.

"Fourth, ensure that medical breakthroughs are accessible and affordable to women, regardless of their financial circumstances.

"And fifth, replace generations of silence with open conversation, education, and compassion.

"Our mission must serve women at every stage of life, from young girls just starting out to mothers dealing with a complex range of responsibilities, to mature women who deserve to have vitality, dignity, and independence.

"In 2026, medical advances can do more than just prolong life. It should give women the freedom to live life to its fullest: to pursue our dreams, experience love, discover, create, travel, and lead.

"Today, we establish a new ambition: transforming hardship and pain into scientific discovery, effective treatments, and lasting cures."

I love how Melania ended:

"We Are Women. We are resilient, capable, and deserving of lives defined not by the burdens we carry, but by the possibilities before us.

"Our health should never limit the fullness of our lives."

Amen, and let's hope they make it so. Personally, I am still seeking a general practitioner who is interested in helping me thrive and live fully in my latter years, rather than force me to pay for unnecessary diagnostic tests and pump me full of pharmaceuticals in order for them to more easily manage my slide into the grave.

One of the task force's goals will be to collaborate with the private sector in order to advance new technologies and solutions that encourage women's thriving, and not just surviving. As the EO states, "Through these efforts, the Trump Administration will work to ensure American women have access to the highest-quality, scientifically supported medical information and care while advancing new treatments, therapies, and cures."

The Order also established a Women’s Health Division within NIH to strengthen its ability to coordinate research, address those huge gaps in scientific understanding, and accelerate the translation of discoveries into better health outcomes.

President Trump took the podium to welcome the key cabinet members, their spouses, and other honored guests pivotal to this initiative and task force. They included Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and Cheryl Hines, Second Lady Usha Vance, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director Dr. Erica Schwartz, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, AR Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Surgeon General nominee Dr. Nicole Saphier, and Fara Sonderling, the wife of Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling.

Trump offered remarks before he and Melania sat down for the EO signing.

"Today, we're taking historic action to promote women's health through all phases of life. Despite amazing advances and medical science, many diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect women remain chronically understudied, but we're studying right now Oz and Bobby and the whole group, the amount of work that we're doing that people aren't quite hearing about, but they're going to hear about some very big events that are taking place I think Bobby? So, you'll be hearing about some incredible things that we're doing."

Trump began his characteristic weave, marveling that this type of initiative had never been done by a prior administration. "I don't know why they haven't done things. There are so many things that seem so basic, and it hasn't been done."

Trump gave all credit to Melania, who came to him with the ask. The Rose Garden attendees gave her huge applause for this. Trump responded, "She's very smart, and she gets it."

"Today, we're taking historic action to promote women's health through all phases of life... These are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, and under the Trump Administration, we're going to get them the care and support that they need and deserve."

President Trump also gave special recognition to Susie Wiles, who had recently undergone her own battle with breast cancer. Trump said that Wiles deemed this initiative of utmost importance.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
