The 2026 FIFA World Cup ends on Sunday, and Team Spain and Team Argentina are set to face off to see who dominates the MetLife Stadium field in New York and takes home the World Cup trophy. Who better than international superstar Tom Cruise to deliver the opening speech that sets off the match.
After all, this is a cinematic moment that requires a cinematic presence. Like the consummate pro that he is, Cruise delivered on a number of levels.
Cruise stood in the center of MetLife Stadium and raised his voice to launch the beginning of the match.
Cruise said:
More than 30 days, 48 nations began a journey. They crossed oceans, they crossed borders, they crossed cultures. And together, they showed us why this game belongs to the world. From the three countries across them, and from every corner of the globe, we have witnessed greatness. And we have shared in moments of joy, moments of hope, moments we will all never forget.
Football is a language spoken without words. A force that unites people, that turns strangers into friends, and reminds us of what we all have in common. Today, only two teams remain: España en Argentina.
But these stories, these stories belong to each and every one of us. To every nation. To every player. To every supporter. To every volunteer. To every dream carried on the pinch. So as we gather for one final chapter, let us celebrate a tournament that brought the world together. Let us celebrate each other. This is football. This is unity. And this... This is greatness.

Tom Cruise Just Broke an Insane World Record All to Entertain Audiences
Short and sweet: a consummate pro knows when to enter and exit the stage. But Cruise being the perfect choice to open the final World Cup game is not just his international bona fides, but also that he unapologetically celebrates and promotes the American story and American movies. From the "Mission Impossible" series to "Top Gun" and "Top Gun: Maverick," Cruise delights in making popcorn-worthy films that not only honor the Alpha male made famous through American cinema, but films that present leaders, trailblazers, and game changers in an honorable fashion.
Cruise has been all those in the entertainment industry, while managing to stay above the fray of the politics and polarization that has infected the majority of his colleagues. So, this speech about unity and what brings us together resounds loud and true; particularly coming from Cruise's lips.
A terrific kickoff for the final kickoff.
