As RedState reported, on Monday, a fatal shooting occurred during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) action in Biddeford, Maine

A 26-year-old man is dead following a shooting Monday morning that involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, according to immigrants rights advocates.

The Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition and Presente! Maine sent a joint statement out sharing information about the victim, who they said was a Colombian man who came to Maine to live and work.

Before the victim's body was even cold, protests were mounted.

The group Biddeford Saco for Racial Justice said they planned to hold a protest against ICE at noon on Monday in Mechanics Park in Biddeford. As of 10:30 a.m., Maine's Total Coverage reported already seeing anti-ICE protestors on the streets in Biddeford.

Gov. Janet Mills (D) and Sen. Angus King (I-ME) gave statements. King relayed how he had been briefed by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, spoke to members of the media at the Portland Jetport Monday afternoon. The man who was killed had been ordered to leave the country, according to King, who spoke with the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullen.

Mullen told King the man was "weaponizing" a vehicle he was in against agents who were trying to stop him, according to King. The man was then shot by an ICE agent.

King said he called on Mullen to conduct a full and transparent investigation into what happened. Agents did not have body cameras on at the time of the shooting, he added.

"It's a tragedy whenever there's a loss of life. We don't know the circumstances at this point, but my statement to Secretary Mullen, I said, 'I'm going to say that you have committed to me that this investigation will be full, fair and transparent. Can I say that?' He said, 'Yes, absolutely,'" King said.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) posted a similar statement on X.

However, anti-ICE protesters not only swarmed the area where the shooting occurred, but targeted Sen. Collins' Biddeford office, blocking the entrance.

Susan Collins Is Leaving Nothing to Chance - but Can She Ward Off Another Shutdown Before Midterms?

Curious that both senators made similar statements, yet it was Collins' office that immediately drew protests. As of this writing, there are no reports of protests being staged against King.

During the 2018 Brett Kavanaugh confirmation circus, Collins stared down death threats and had heightened security because of her decision to vote to confirm now Justice Kavanaugh. In 2020, Collins was also threatened after she voted to acquit President Donald Trump 45 when he faced Democrat-driven impeachment hearings. In 2022, Collins spoke about the threats she faced:

Collins told the outlet someone also smashed a storm window on a tucked away part of her house that suggested it had been "studied and chosen."

"There's been a sea change in that we now see this constant escalation and erosion of any boundaries of what is acceptable behavior, and it has crossed over into actual violence," Collins said. Three people are in prison as a result of threats made against her and several others are awaiting potential action, she added.

Sadly, this is not her first time at this rodeo, but as this history has shown, these attacks and threats only stiffen Collins' spine and strengthen her resolve. This also may increase her poll lead as opposed to the opposite. Collins is a velvet hammer, so it may not make a difference who Maine Democrats choose to replace the disgraced candidate Graham Platner. If anything, that person may be the nail to Collins' hammer to seal the Maine Democrats' coffin.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
