Multiple outlets from coast to coast are reporting the lowest gas prices for Memorial Day weekend since 2021. From North Carolina to Nebraska, Arizona to Iowa, and D.C. to Florida, it's a great Friday news dump item, right up there with the news that the Senate neutered California's ban on gas cars.

From the Heartland of Missouri:
AAA anticipates a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend, with millions expected to travel for the holiday.
In this year’s travel forecast, 45.1 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday and Monday, an increase of 1.4 million travelers compared to last year, surpassing the previous record set in 2005 when 44 million people traveled during the holiday period.
AAA reports that most of the travel will be by car, with nearly 39.5 million people taking road trips. Gas prices are lower this Memorial Day weekend, providing some relief to travelers. AAA notes that gas prices haven’t been this low during Memorial Day since 2021, despite general concerns about prices overall.
The national average for gas is $3.19 per gallon, down 42 cents from last year. In Missouri, the average price is $2.87 per gallon, a decrease of 34 cents compared to last year. Illinois drivers will pay $3.44 per gallon, which is 57 cents less than last year.
Remember what happened in 2021? Canceling oil pipelines and gas fracking, restrictive taxation, and regulatory burdens in the service of the so-called Green New Deal; this was a hallmark of the Biden administration. All these actions resulted in increased prices on everything, because transportation and a majority of U.S. producers depend on fuel production. Higher fuel prices get passed on to the consumer in a number of ways, visible and invisible. Yeah, good times.
Thanks to President Donald Trump's resounding win in the 2024 election, people can blast the Beach Boys song "Good Vibrations" from their chosen music streaming service while they motor down the highway. Because now Americans can travel farther for so much less.
It’s the Trump Effect in action: gas prices this Memorial Day weekend will be the cheapest since 2021 — and “if you adjust for inflation and rising wages, Americans are actually going to spend the least amount filling up this Memorial Day since 2003, excluding COVID,” according to GasBuddy.
The national nightmare that was Biden’s war on American energy is over. After President Donald J. Trump declared a National Energy Emergency on his first day in office, his administration has taken relentless action to revive the nation’s energy capabilities and undo the Biden-era stranglehold on American energy production.
The "Big, Beautiful Bill" Budget Resolution contains provisions for further unleashing American energy production, but one energy expert lauded what Trump has accomplished over the last four months, which has allowed American energy to be freed to flourish once again.
The centerpiece of Trump’s first 100 days was his bold declaration of a National Energy Emergency. It was a powerful recognition that America’s security and prosperity demand urgent action.
Under Biden, Americans suffered the highest gas prices in history and crippling inflation, both driven by failed energy policies. Trump put the full power of the federal government behind restoring energy independence.
The results are undeniable: Gas prices are down. Inflation is easing. American energy workers are back on the job. Investment is pouring back into the energy sector. And the U.S. stands once again as a leader on the global energy stage.
In just four months, Trump has delivered what many thought impossible: a revitalized, energized and liberated American energy economy. No president has ever achieved a faster or more decisive turnaround.
The best part? This is only the beginning.
America is so back, baby!
