The George Gascòn Recall has turned in 715,833 signatures to the Los Angeles County Recorder’s office. This number surpasses the threshold of the 566,857 verified signatures needed. It is looking more and more likely that this recall will be placed on the November ballot.

And not a moment too soon, as the scourge of crime, and those that commit crime, continues unabated in Los Angeles. An Olympic volleyball silver medalist was recently attacked, almost losing an eye.

An Olympic silver medalist has posted a horrific video of her injuries after she was brutally attacked by a homeless man wielding a metal pole.

Kim Glass, a 6ft 3in volleyball player, shared shots of her bloody nose and eye after being randomly jumped in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 37-year-old said the thug was acting strangely before running up to her and battering her in the face.

L.A. Homelessness is out of control. Every park, underpass, and residential neighborhood is overrun with open-air drug use, sexual acts, feces, and degradation of the worst sort. Sadly, the elected leaders (looking at you, Eric Garcetti) promised to address this problem, but have only exacerbated it. The 2020 COVID pandemic helped to spike the already high numbers, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva:

HUD waived the count requirement in 2021 due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. The agency’s latest count began in February 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on homelessness, both in the city of Los Angeles and throughout the county have yet to be fully realized, but LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva says LA can expect that number to be much higher.

“That 67(,000) number is low,” he said. “It’s closer to probably 83,000 because… it was rising by 14% per year like clockwork. They stopped counting in 2020. So today, presume it’s way north of 80,000.”

Project Roomkey/Homekey, which commandeers hotels to house the homeless, is an unmitigated disaster. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors just approved $532,613,000 in homelessness funding for the 2022-23 fiscal year. The L.A. City Council approved $1 billion in homelessness spending for the 2020-21 budget year. Yet, homelessness has increased, with five homeless persons a day dying on the streets, the majority from drug overdoses.

And many commit crime, some of it fatal, as in the case of Brianna Kupfer, the UCLA student who was stabbed to death in January while at work.

Kim Glass was extremely fortunate to have escaped that fate.

The Sports Illustrated model and star of the US women’s volleyball team said the attacker looked at her ‘with some pretty hateful eyes.’

Glass said she had been about to turn to her friend to say she thought there was something wrong with him and that he might hit a car.

She continued: ‘Before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like a pipe, hit me… it happened so fast. He literally flung it from the street.’

Glass later said she was okay after having stitches but there would be no permanent damage to her vision.

In an update on her Instagram story on Sunday, Glass said that she was ‘overwhelmed with all of the loving supportive messages’ that she received.

She added: ‘This all could have been so much worse. So I’m grateful right now.
