If you have followed my work for any length of time, you know I detest progressivism and many of those who adhere to that destructive ideology. Yes, I know what Master Yoda teaches us about hate leading to the dark side.
But there is little that turns me into a Sith faster than progressive women like New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.
On Tuesday, I wrote about how the governor got wrecked on social media for claiming Black kids in the Bronx don’t know what a computer is.
During a speech at a forum in California, Hochul went into full Bull Connor mode, claiming that “Right now, we have, you know, young Black kids growing up in the Bronx who don’t even know what the word ‘computer’ is" and that “They don’t know these things. And I want the world opened up to all of them.”
This type of rhetoric is par for the course for progressives, who insist on insulting Black Americans under the guise of trying to help them. It is for this reason that Malcolm X referred to the white liberal as the “fox” smiling with its teeth, trying to appear as a friend.
For starters, Hochul perpetuated deeply entrenched stereotypes about Black people – especially those who do live in economically disadvantaged areas. She essentially intimated that Black kids growing up in certain places are not aware of how to use technology – which is far from the truth in an age when even the poorest among us own a smartphone of some sort. Moreover, she exhibited a rather dismissive attitude toward Black folks who have risen above these circumstances.
The governor’s comments also betray an apparent lack of nuanced understanding of the Black community. Suggesting that Black children are unaware of computers and other forms of technology is not only condescending as hell, it also leads to the type of misguided policies progressives have wielded against the Black community for decades. The view progressives have of Black Americans is one of helpless impotence. They look at us almost like puppies who need constant supervision and a well-deserved pat on the head when we do something they like.
The policies that come out of this white progressive perspective, therefore, are not intended to remove obstacles to success faced by Black Americans but to advance a decidedly Marxist agenda they claim will finally promote equality between Americans of all ethnicities.
There are zillions of examples of this.
But let’s take the “Defund the Police” movement, for example. During the George Floyd riots, white progressives launched a wholesale movement to pressure major cities into slashing their law enforcement budgets, resulting in fewer police officers patrolling the streets. They claimed this would somehow cut down on police brutality.
In reality, it did nothing to decrease police brutality and everything to make Black Americans more vulnerable to violent criminals. Progressives pushed this agenda despite polls showing that most Black folks wanted the same level of policing in their communities or more. Crime rates soared as a result, creating even more Black victims of criminal activity.
There is also the issue of school choice. Many Black children suffer from substandard education in government-run schools. One of the ways to improve this issue is to empower Black parents to decide where and how their children are educated instead of allowing the government to decide. Yet, progressives are staunchly against this idea, preferring instead to pour even more taxpayer money into failing schools, insisting that this will magically produce positive educational outcomes for Black students.
Just as with law enforcement, the majority of Black Americans held views that were contrary to the ”solutions” forced on them by progressives. They overwhelmingly favor the type of school choice initiatives that far-leftists abhor.
Of course, if white progressives like Hochul took some time out of their busy schedules to actually converse with regular Black folks, they might already know all of this. But why would they do such a thing when they don’t actually care what we think? The reality is that white progressives believe they know what is best for us better than we do, which is why they don’t bother to consider how we might view the situation.
