Hot Takes: Social Media Utterly Vaporizes Gov. Kathy Hochul for Racist Remark Against Black New Yorkers

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday made the dubious — and racist — claim that Black kids in the Bronx don’t know what a computer is.

During a speech at a forum in California, Hochul went into full Bull Connor mode, claiming that “Right now, we have, you know, young Black kids growing up in the Bronx who don’t even know what the word ‘computer’ is" and that “They don’t know these things. And I want the world opened up to all of them.”

Hochul’s ridiculous comments went viral on social media – especially on X, where she was roundly pilloried by users. Former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines chimed in, noting “just how out of touch the people supposedly leading this country are.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) also harangued the governor.

Several other users also lambasted Hochul.

And my favorite response came from a user who absolutely nailed it by pointing out that folks like Hochul “have never been around black people.”

This post sums it up perfectly. White progressives like Hochul tend to keep their distance from regular Black folks while pretending to champion our causes from their ivory towers where the other White saviors live. Unfortunately, it’s not very likely that other Democrats, who profess to care about racism, will actually call her out on this one.
