The recent suicide death of F.L. “Bubba” Copeland, mayor of Smiths Station, Alabama, has unearthed a complex and troubling tale. Copeland, who was also a pastor, took his own life after having been exposed for moonlighting as an online crossdresser.
The left-wing press portrayed Copeland’s death as the result of bigotry toward the LGBTQ community and used it as a vehicle to attack the right. The mayor’s “hobby” was first exposed by a conservative news site called the 1819 Project.
Yet, shortly after Copeland’s death, it was revealed that his fetish went far beyond dressing up as a woman. Several women came forward and added more salacious and disturbing details to this saga.
Multiple women have come forward to reveal they were victimized by now-deceased Smiths station Mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland after discovering that he had shared their names and photos to pornography sites without their knowledge. Copeland took his own life last week after a damning expose was released by the 1819 Project unravelling the sick details of his secret “transgender” double-life — one that included penning erotic fantasies of murdering a local woman.
Despite having demonstrated a number of predatory behaviors, Copeland’s suicide has been portrayed sympathetically by major media outlets, resulting in an outpouring of support. A makeshift memorial dedicated to the former mayor and pastor was set up outside First Baptist Church on Sunday in Phenix, Alabama, causing the women targeted by his perverse behavior to struggle with a “mix of emotions.”
Some of the women discussed how Copeland used their names and images to victimize them while speaking with local reporters.
Ansley Summerlin said she was shocked to find out her name and photos had been posted online without her permission.
“I had some people start sending me photos that were posted of me on multiple porn sites, I guess you could say, that also had pictures of Brittini, as well. He proceeded to use my first and middle name on these sites, and I believe there are about nine sites now that I have about 5 or 6 photos of my face and my name across the internet,” she said.
An employee of a local hair salon in Smiths Station did not want to be identified, but said her name was used without her knowledge in an online story she believes was written by Copeland.
“It said my first and last name, and it was basically describing the way that I look, and then, intensified, I guess, as a porn star, and it went into very graphic detail. I didn’t get past the first page, because I honestly couldn’t stomach it,” she said.
Before his death, Copeland responded to the cross-dressing allegations by claiming it was a hobby that he and his wife used to relieve stress.
"It's a hobby I do to relieve stress. I have a lot of stress, and I'm not medically transitioning. It's just a bit of a character I'm playing. … I don't go out and seek solicitation or anything like that," he said. "It's something that I don't intermingle with the other. It's private. I don't do it in the public or anything like that. … It's just a fictional character I made up to relieve stress."
However, Copeland’s activities went even further than sharing photos of local women to pornography sites. Reduxx reported that he also posted transgender fetish content and graphic sexual narratives on social media. His Tumblr account featured themes related to feminization, and he wrote several erotic stories, one of which involved him fantasizing about murdering a woman to assume her identity.
Copeland’s narration describes undergoing dramatic plastic surgery to “become” the woman he is stalking. “I wonder does she take a shower or a bath? Do her panties and bra match all the time? These are the thoughts that plague my mind. Being a relatively good hacker, I had to figure out a way to install Spyware on her devices,” Copeland wrote.
He then pursues the woman on a cruise ship. After a violent struggle in which the victim screams and cries, Copeland pushes her over the rail of the ship. Before murdering her, Copeland’s character steals the victim’s wedding ring set.
“Grabbing her by her left hand, I had to get one last piece of her to complete my plan. Doing her best to fight me, I had to get her wedding set! Those two rings had become the object of my desire,” he writes. “No one heard a thing. As the real [victim’s name redacted] hit the water, Lost forever!”
The former mayor also promoted the use of hormones and surgical treatments for men who desired to “become [a] whore.” He advocated the same for children.
Some of the photos and shared images featured on Copeland’s Tumblr blog had a theme of younger boys being transitioned into girls, commonly referred to online as “sissification.” Images of children or teens with eroticized text describing transforming from male into female are known as “sissy captions,” and Copeland had been participating in a Reddit forum on the theme. While the images, which sometimes included photos of actual minors, were non-sexual in appearance, they were passed through “erotica” accounts.
There are several elements to this bizarre story that raise questions. While it does not seem that Copeland actually acted out any of his fantasies or beliefs, how did he get away with taking women’s images and sending them to pornography sites? It is not clear whether the women knew he was doing this while he was alive or if they only found out after his death. But if he were still living, it seems possible that there could have been legal action against him.
The other issue, as usual, is how the media has treated this case. Many of the reports I found were more sympathetic to Copeland than the women he victimized. In fact, his victims are not even mentioned in most of the reports. It is one thing to promote acceptance and inclusivity – it is quite another to do so at the expense of others. Not every member of the LGBTQ community is worth defending, especially when they harm others. Unfortunately, the far-leftist woke crowd prioritizes their agenda over people’s well-being.
