If you thought the Democrats’ meltdown over Tucker Carlson releasing additional footage showing what happened on Jan. 6, 2021, was delicious, wait until we see what else is unearthed after House Republicans complete their investigation. Indeed, what we are seeing today might just be a tasty appetizer before a grand feast.
Republicans are set to launch a series of investigations into the details surrounding the riot at the U.S. Capitol building. After two years of politically-motivated probes coming from Democrats, having the other side of the story told will provide a welcome balance.
CNN reported:
Republicans in the House are beginning to plot multiple probes into the 2021 Capitol attack, including looking into the Democratic-led select committee’s actions from the last Congress, the security failures from that day and potentially even the treatment of January 6 defendants, multiple sources familiar with the work tell CNN. The move comes as McCarthy green-lit the release of January 6 security footage to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who sought to whitewash the severity of the attack and caused a major uproar among Senate Republicans on Tuesday.
In a rather ironic turn of events, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), whom Democrats falsely accused of having given a tour of the Capitol to rioters in some weird conspiracy, will be leading the investigation into the House Select Committee and also security failures that allowed the assault to occur.
“I’m spending some time over there getting my hands wrapped around what we have. We’re going to be looking at what happened in the Capitol. What happened leading up to it? How did we have such a security failure,” Loudermilk told CNN. “The January 6 committee, they didn’t take that approach. That should have been something that they looked it. I think they looked more on the political side of it.”
Loudermilk indicated that he and his team are already “poring over the more than 2 million documents” of the select committee’s investigation. He noted that the probe is “in the infancy state” and that he would be holding hearings and might even issue subpoenas.
As could be expected, some Republicans are not on board with the idea of exposing the Democrats’ clear, political bias in the matter. Rep. David Valadao (R-CA), who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump over J6, told CNN that he doesn’t “know if there’s anything legitimate that could come out at this point.”
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) told CNN, “I think [House Republicans] need to watch a little less cable TV.”
Naturally, Democrats aren’t very happy about the idea either. Some told CNN that they are concerned that the GOP’s investigations might undermine the validity of the House select committee’s findings. Apparently, they already saw this coming. A source said that staffers knew that “the GOP might try to claim the investigation was de-legitimate and investigate them if they gained power.”
Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), who also served on the original committee, claimed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was only pushing for investigations to appeal to the conservative base. “There is no limit to what (McCarthy) will do in order to fulfill those promises to the most extreme within his caucus.”
Loudermilk also noted that he would be allowing other committees to have access to the select committee’s documents as well. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has already scheduled time to review the footage McCarthy released.
McCarthy and his team have been promising these investigations in the leadup to last year’s midterm elections. They will almost certainly reveal information proving what most already know: The Democratic House Select J6 Committee was nothing more than a politically-motivated farce intended to smear Trump and boost their odds of holding on to Congress in the midterms. While J6 has been losing its efficacy as a political weapon, it seems highly likely that Loudermilk’s investigation will put the final nail in its coffin.
Of course, members of the activist media will do their level best to spin whatever details come to light—especially if they are even more egregious than expected. Democrats will whine and complain about getting their comeuppance. But in the end, the American people will be more aware of what our government is up to.
