Idaho Freedom Foundation Claims State Is Offering ‘Porn Literacy’ to Small Children; Idaho DHW Denies

Yes, you read that headline right. Idaho – yes, THAT Idaho – is offering “porn literacy” to children. I have said many times that we should not assume that the push to sexualize, or “groom,” children is only happening in blue states. This story is yet another example.

The Idaho Freedom Foundation reported:

Idaho’s Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) implements sex education curriculum endorsed by Planned Parenthood in schools. The curriculum and training for sex education facilitators is purchased from an interest group that promotes queering education and normalizing the consumption of pornography.

Idaho law requires sex education taught in public schools to reinforce traditional family arrangements. IDHW promotes what Idaho law prohibits, however. IDHW takes funds from federal programs like the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and Title V Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE). Then, IDHW acquires sex education products from non-profits like Education, Training and Research (ETR), whose curriculum is developed and endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

The report also noted that IDHW “instructs public health districts to implement ETR’s Reducing the Risk (RTR) curriculum in public schools,” and that ETR’s curriculum claims it teaches abstinence. However, the nonprofit “delivers a variety of approaches, including an ‘LGBTQ Inclusive’ curriculum” and “advocates for teaching elementary students about ‘porn literacy,’ which involves instruction on ‘kink and power, pleasure, sexual identity, sexual acts, and sexual exploration in relation to pornography.”

Indeed, ETR designates porn literacy as a “required topic” in sex education.

Training sponsored by the organization titled “Porn Literacy in Sex Ed” features individuals advocating for teaching children about pornography. Sarah Diamond, Associate Director of Prevention and Education at the University of San Diego, said she hopes educators refrain from stigmatizing pornography and instead help “students reflect on their own values about pornography.”

Diamond also called for giving students “porn literacy values” surveys and creating activities in which students defend arguments like “Pornography can be a good way to learn about sex.”

Jess Melendez, Adolescent Programs Health Educator at San Ysidro Health Teen Clinic, says in another training video that the teaching of porn literacy should begin in elementary schools with “intimate safety conversations” and that students in middle school should be able to “identify sexually explicit media and pornography.”

She even managed to inject some wokeism into the equation by asserting that high school students should be instructed on “how can porn that depicts racism be harmful to a viewer.”

Dr. Ibram X Kendi might be proud to learn of the effort to make porn more antiracist.

One of the activities that ETR recommends is having children view a video called “Porn: Fact or Fiction” in which cartoon characters engage in sexually explicit scenes.

According to a video published by the Idaho Freedom Foundation, “[t]rainers believe third-grade students benefit from porn” and notes that some of the activities “include students watching cartoon porn.”

Even more disturbing is that on its website, Idaho’s government teaches “students how to hide porn browsing from parents.”

This is yet another story showing how important it is that parents are aware of what their governments are trying to teach to their children. For far too long, school districts have benefited from the fact that most people have been ignorant about the radical far-leftist ideas with which they are inculcating children.

Now that this issue has gotten more exposure, there has been a backlash. But these people remain undeterred, which means the battle will be a bitter one. Nevertheless, the more people who find out what’s going on in our schools, the easier it will be to defeat those seeking to sexualize young children.

According to a statement provided to RedState, “DHW does not support or fund any ‘porn literacy’ for children in Idaho.” The full statement reads:

The Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) has received questions this week about sex education curriculum in Idaho.

DHW does not support or fund any “porn literacy” for children in Idaho. DHW provides evidence-based, optional sex education curriculum, called Reducing the Risk, for Idaho schools. Reducing the Risk does not discuss porn literacy, and it is not a subject taught in the curriculum DHW provides. DHW does not collaborate with or seek the endorsement of Planned Parenthood for sex education curriculum.

Sex education in Idaho schools is addressed in Idaho Code 33-1608. High schools or school districts can choose to offer Reducing the Risk as part of a sex education curriculum. Schools that choose to offer Reducing the Risk do so with parental consent. They offer opt-in or opt-out for parents, in accordance with school district policies and Idaho Code.

Reducing the Risk is medically accurate and covers the following National Health Education Standards:

  • How to say no to sex
  • Abstinence planning
  • How to avoid sexually transmitted infections
  • Birth control methods
  • Where to find a healthcare provider
  • Talking to parents/caregivers about values

Based on the documents and videos shown in Idaho Freedom Foundation’s report, it seems Idaho parents have a lot of things to clarify with DHW and with their local school districts.
