Chicago Public Schools Push Transgender Ideology Behind Parents’ Backs

Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the third-largest school district in the United States, has been instructing teachers to promote transgender ideology in their classrooms and to conceal children’s gender identities from their parents. A PowerPoint presentation given to teachers and faculty outlines how teachers are supposed to apply far-leftist ideas to their teaching and relationships with students.

According to CPS’ “Supporting Gender Diversity Toolkit,” the point of these guidelines is to “create an environment in which all students are able to identify and express their gender and achieve healthy development including social, emotional, and academic success.”

The district seeks to achieve this objective by having schools “affirming students’ gender identities and being flexible during gender transition processes.”

The presentation includes progressive ideas like intersectionality, gender theory, and others. But it focuses heavily on transgender students and staff and how educators should address the matter. It discusses the severe mental health issues that many with gender dysphoria suffer. Then, CPS proceeds to instruct teachers on how they should approach transgenderism.

The presentation stresses that teachers should “not call them ‘preferred’ pronouns” because “they are REQUIRED.” It also reminds them that “[i]ntentionally using the wrong pronouns for someone is a violation of District policy.”

CPS also encourages teachers to put their pronouns in their email signatures and suggests they “[a]sk students what pronouns they use.” The district admonishes staff to also “[h]old colleagues accountable” when they mistakenly violate one of the guidelines and to “[u]se correct pronouns when talking about someone, even if they are not around.”

In its section discussing how teachers can be “more inclusive,” the presentation recommends that teachers introduce themselves with their pronouns, invite students to share their pronouns, and “include transgender and nonbinary people in your curriculum.”

Later in the presentation is when CPS gets into areas that parents would find problematic. It affirms that a child’s gender identity is a private matter and should not be discussed with other staff members or students. But several slides also stress that teachers should not inform parents of their students’ gender identity without their consent.

One slide suggests that teachers use gender-neutral language to be more “inclusive.” CPS recommends using phrases like:

“Hey everyone!”

“Good morning folks.”

“Is everybody ready?”

Educators are discouraged from using terms like “boys” and “girls” or “ladies and gentlemen.”

This type of teaching is occurring all across the country, and as more of this gets exposed, we can expect to see the debate intensify even further. The notion that schools should conceal important information from parents will create even more of a backlash – as it should. If progressives are attempting to instill their way of thinking into students’ minds without their parents’ knowledge, people must push back. Otherwise, those who want children to belong to the state and not to their parents will get their wish.
