Shocker: Biden and Democrats Are Breaking Their Promise to Historically Black Colleges

President Joe Biden has demonstrated a remarkable lack of gratitude to the black voters who kept him afloat in the Democratic presidential primaries and were instrumental in his election last year. The $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill has raised hackles from both the left and right. But one particular provision in the proposal has elicited criticism from Democrats, at least one of which indicated they would vote against the bill if the issue is not addressed.

In the original iteration of the “Build Back Better” agenda, Biden proposed $55 billion in funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBUCs). However, when the proposed legislation went to Congress for reconciliation, it cut the number to $30.5 billion, according to BNC News.

Rep. Alma Adams (D-NC) and Sen. Dr. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) both objected to the drastic cuts in HBCU funding. The Moguldom Nation reported:

The new proposed funding includes $27 billion in tuition subsidies, $1.45 billion for institutional aid and $2 billion to improve research and development infrastructure. However, HBCUs will have to compete with other minority-serving institutions (MSIs) for the smaller pot of funding.

Adams and Warnock sent a letter to their Democratic colleagues in Congress proposing a compromise in which they would give back $15 billion of what was initially proposed. They were rebuffed.

Rep. Adams responded by threatening to vote against the bill. In the letter, she wrote:

This is contrary to President Biden’s own goals for HBCU and MSI funding. If this language as written becomes law, it is accurate to say that HBCUs will only successfully compete for pennies on the dollar.

Members of the 1890 Universities – a foundation of HBCUs designated as land-grant institutions – also sent a letter objecting to the cuts in funding. The letter noted that HBCUs “have produced some of the nation’s greatest minds and the funding proposed would allow us to continue producing scholars.”

The letter continued:

We hope that we can count on your support of this request by adding significant funding for our institutions through the budget reconciliation process. Conversely, failure to include such investments would leave a significant gap as Congress and the Biden-Harris administration seek to rebuild our nation’s public infrastructure.

Lodriguez Murray, senior vice president of the United Negro College Fund, told BNC News that these universities are essential when it comes to providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged students. He said:

“It’s not just black students that are on the college campuses, but the thing you have to look at is the fact that these colleges are the best in the country at educating first-generation college students and they’re the best in the country at educating those that come from underserved backgrounds, economically disadvantaged backgrounds.”

Oddly enough, the mainstream activist media has been deafeningly silent on this matter. It is not hard to imagine how this would have turned out if President Donald Trump – who increased HBCU funding – did the same.

What the media does not want Americans, especially black Americans, to know is that this story is yet another indicator demonstrating what many already know: President Biden and his merry band of Democrats do not care about black people. During the 2020 campaign, they did what they always do: Make lofty promises to the black community knowing they have no real intention of fulfilling them.

The Democrats have been focusing on almost every other group except black people. They pushed for anti-Asian hate crime legislation due to assaults on Asian Americans. They promised – and are actively pursuing – measures to grant 11 million illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. Now, they are discussing $6 billion to Afghans coming into the country.

So far, they have done little to help their most loyal voting bloc – and why should they? Like I constantly point out, they don’t have to do anything because they have no real competition for black votes.
