The leftist activist media and Democrats seem to be giddy in the leadup to the upcoming “Justice for J6” rally which is scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 18. But recent developments show that the event might not give them the political cudgel they need. Indeed, there are reports indicating that high-profile Republicans and conservatives are avoiding the rally like AOC avoids doing anything of substance.
The New York Times’ Luke Broadwater reported:
Ever since a pro-Trump mob attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, Republicans have been trying to shift the national conversation away from that dark, violent day and onto what they say are the problems of the Biden administration: a troubled pullout from Afghanistan, an overtaxed southern border and rising inflation.
Remember this passage – it will become important later in this piece.
The report explains that the Capitol Police reinstalled a security fence around the U.S. Capitol building and had seen “concerning online chatter” from supposed right-wing extremist groups. But, interestingly enough, the author acknowledges that “many Republican lawmakers, gritting their teeth, said they wanted nothing to do with the event,” and that “not a single member of Congress has confirmed his or her attendance.” This includes high-profile right-leaning leaders who have “been most outspoken in portraying the rioters as patriots who have been persecuted for their political beliefs.”
Sen. John Thune (R-SD) noted “there are a lot of clearly angry people who want to march on the Capitol,” and that “I haven’t talked to a single Republican up here in the Senate that has encouraged or enabled anything like that.”
John Feehery, a Republican strategist, told the Times that “Anytime the attention is on Joe Biden it’s good for Republicans, and anytime the attention is on Jan. 6 it’s bad for Republicans.” He continued:
The only hope Democrats have of keeping the House is to make Jan. 6 the issue of the campaign. They know that, and we know that. The only people who don’t seem to know that are the activists.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters that he did not expect any GOP lawmakers to attend the rally. Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) also indicated they were not interested in the event.
Even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who rarely turns down an opportunity to get attention, has indicated she will not be present at the rally.
Unfortunately for the left-wing activist media, former President Donald Trump also said he was staying away from the rally and even criticized it as a “setup that the news media will use against him regardless of the outcome,” according to the Times. Instead, he will be attending a golf tournament at his club in New Jersey and will be in Mar-a-Lago later in the day.
The rally is being held by Matt Braynard, a former operative for Trump’s campaign. He has been a vocal critic of how the justice system is treating those who were arrested for participating in the riot. He alleges the Biden administration is targeting “peaceful Trump supporters who entered the Capitol with selective prosecutions based on their political beliefs.” He also said:
They’re losing their jobs. They’re losing their homes. They’re spending all their savings on attorneys. They’re going bankrupt for doing what on any other day, for any other cause would have gotten you a $50 fine and a slap on the wrist.
The article notes that Braynard “has had difficulty securing high-profile speakers” for the rally.
Now then, let’s get back to the activist media and why they are giddy as schoolgirls over tomorrow’s rally. In that first snippet of the article, the author claims Republicans are using Afghanistan, the migrant crisis, and all of Biden’s other failures to somehow distract from the Jan. 6 riots.
This is nothing more than projection.
What is happening here is that the Democrats and left-wing media are hoping something pops off at the rally because they wish to use it to distract the public from the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and the reality that the migrant crisis is back in the news. This past week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken sat before brutal hearings in front of the House and Senate Foreign Relations Committees, which further illustrated the Biden administration’s ineptitude.
The fact of the matter is that we are more than eight months removed from the assault on the U.S. Capitol. Despite the Democrats’ attempt to use a House select committee to milk the riot for all it’s worth, most Americans are not as fixated on it as much as the left wants. Nevertheless, they are trying anyway, and if anything untoward happens at the rally, they will fall all over themselves to exploit it.
But it is also important to realize that even when violence does not ensue at the rally, the activist media is going to use whatever they can to distract from the situation in Afghanistan and the migrant crisis. There will always be some comment that media activists can seize upon to make hay. Unfortunately for them, it will not be enough to get the nation’s focus.
