The debate over metal detectors in the House of Representatives has turned into the “The Karen Wars.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), also known as the Karen-In-Chief, ordered security officials to install metal detectors at each entrance to the chamber shortly after the assault on the U.S. Capitol building, ostensibly to prevent crazed gun-toting members of Congress from slaughtering their colleagues.
However, it appears that Pelosi’s decision has not gone over well with lawmakers and Capitol Police officers tasked with enforcing the rules.
Fox News reported:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., ordered security officials to install magnetometers at each entrance to the House chamber after the riot. That sparked arguments between USCP officers guarding the doors as members tried to enter the chamber to vote. Some members just cruised right past the metal detectors, drawing the ire of Capitol Police officers – to say nothing of their colleagues.
The Karen-In-Chief defended her decision, claiming that some were worried about lawmakers “being a danger” to one another, claiming that “the enemy is within” the House as ominous Hitchcockian music played in the background.
Of course, Pelosi neglected to indicate which lawmakers were supposedly the enemy within, but it is not too difficult to take a wild guess. Some Democrats and media activists have falsely accused Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) of giving “surveillance tours” to some of the individuals who participated in the riots at the Capitol before they launched their assault on Jan. 6. The representative filmed a video a few days before the incident, asserting her Second Amendment rights as she walked around D.C.
Last week, the House voted to levy fines against members who bypass security checkpoints as they enter the chamber. The penalties are $5,000 for a first offense and $10,000 for a second offense.
So far, the House has fined two congressmen for allegedly dodging security: Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA). However, it seems that the House missed one: Chief Karen herself, Nancy Pelosi.
Reps. Rodney Davids (R-IL), Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), and Bryan Steil (R-WI) wrote a letter to Acting House Sergeant-At-Arms Timothy Blodgett noting that the House Speaker violated her own rules.
“(Thursday), at approximately 9:59 am, multiple members observed the Speaker of the House entering the House Chamber without completing security screening,” the lawmakers wrote. “What we observed is a clear violation of House Resolution 73 and you are required by House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us once this fine has been assessed.”
However, Blodgett explained that he could only assess a fine “after receiving an unusual occurrence report from the United States Capitol Police.” According to him, “only the USCP can determine whether an individual has failed to complete security screening.”
Gohmert objected to his being fined, explaining that the rules were not applied fairly.
From Fox News:
Gohmert took to the floor Friday night to lodge his grievances about receiving a fine. Gohmert said he was on the floor. Then left to head to the men’s room just off the Speaker’s Lobby. But Gohmert said apparently officers wanted to check him again before returning to the floor after doing his business. The Texas Republican invoked a famous scene in the “Godfather” where Michael Corleone hides a gun in the tank of a commode in an Italian restaurant in the Bronx.
“There are no tanks on the toilets. No place to hide a gun that I’ve seen,” said Gohmert of the men’s room by the Speaker’s Lobby. “Apparently the rules have changed over the last few weeks. All of a sudden yesterday, I was told, well, ‘You need to be wanded.'”
It is time to cut through the crap once again.
The metal detectors have absolutely nothing to do with safety or assuaging legitimate concerns from whiny Democratic lawmakers regarding carrying guns in the Capitol. Pelosi’s decision to install metal detectors in the House chamber is nothing more than a naked attempt to portray Republicans as “the enemy” lurking within Congress. It is a cheap propaganda ploy designed to score cheap political points.
The metal detector scheme is one of many that the Democrats have employed to portray conservatives as being just like the thugs who stormed the Capitol. By engaging in this Karenous behavior, Pelosi is joining the ranks of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who claimed that she avoided sheltering with her GOP colleagues during the assault out of fear that they would kill her since they’re all white supremacists and stuff.
It would be a clever trick if their objective wasn’t so obvious. Still, it appears that GOP lawmakers will have to suck it up with the metal detectors until 2022 when they retake the House and do away with that ridiculous rule.
