The Biden Administration has issued an executive order designed to give the Democratic Party an electoral advantage in the 2022 midterms and the 2024 general election. If the White House succeeds, Republicans might have a difficult road to winning back Congress in 2022 and the presidency in 2024.
The president is looking to raise the number of legal immigrants becoming naturalized American citizens before 2022 so they can vote in the upcoming elections. On Tuesday, he issued an executive order instructing multiple federal agencies to work on ways to increase the rates of naturalizations.
Biden’s order is intended to “eliminate barriers in and otherwise improve the existing naturalization process … [and] substantially reduce current naturalization processing times … [and] make the naturalization process more accessible to all eligible individuals, including through a potential reduction of the naturalization fee and restoration of the fee waiver process.”
The executive action will create the “Interagency Working Group on Promoting Naturalization” that includes the Department of Homeland Security, the Labor Department, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of House and Urban Development, the Department of Education, the Social Security Administration, and other federal agencies to “develop a national strategy to promote naturalization.”
The order instructs each agency to “submit a plan to the President describing the steps their respective agencies will take to advance” the president’s initiative within 90 days of the order. Furthermore, each agency is ordered to “submit a reported to the President describing the progress of their respective agencies towards implementing the plan developed” within 180 days of submitting the plan to the White House.
The order also mandates that federal agencies ensure that policies related to denaturalization and revoking passports “are not used excessively or inappropriately.”
In February of last year, the Justice Department created a denaturalization division dedicated to revoking naturalized citizenship to various types of criminals included sex offenders, war criminals, terrorists, and fraudster. Biden’s executive action could dissolve some of these measures.
According to Breitbart News, “the U.S. naturalizes hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants every year. In 2019, for instance, more than 843,500 legal immigrants became naturalized citizens — an 11 percent increase from the year before when nearly 762,000 legal immigrants became naturalized citizens.”
A recent Pew Research poll reveals that increased immigration tends to give Democratic candidates an electoral edge. The majority of immigrants come from South American countries and Latino voters are more likely to vote for Democrats.
The Center for Immigration Studies conducted a study revealing how drastically state electorates have been impacted by mass immigration since 2000. Georgia has experienced a 337% increase in the number of foreign-born voters and their children. North Carolina and Texas have also seen enormous increases.
The increase that Biden is attempting to push will likely pay off if his administration’s plan succeed, especially when it comes to presidential elections. In swing states, the increase in foreign-born voters could easily ensure their electoral votes go to the Democratic candidate.
The Democrats are well aware of the advantages that increased immigration will bring for them. It is the reason why they pushed open borders policies and fought so vigorously against former President Donald Trump’s tougher stance on immigration.
“Current legal immigration levels are expected to bring in 15 million new foreign-born voters by 2041,” according to Breitbart News. “About eight million of those voters will have arrived entirely due to the process known as ‘chain migration’ whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the U.S.”
There is a chance that the administration could fail to increase the number of naturalized citizens at a rate that will provide a significant benefit in the midterms. But regardless, when Republican candidates regain power, they will have to push for measures that prevent the Democrats from inflating their electoral advantages through the use of open borders policies.
Also, it’s worth noting that the Republican Party’s abysmal performance with non-white voters is an issue. If the GOP had focused on engaging with minority communities as they do with predominantly white communities, the Democrats’ strategy would not cause as much damage to conservative candidates. The Republican Party will need to address both issues if it wishes to remain relevant. Otherwise, it will only be a matter of time before the left manages to import a voter base that will make it easier for them to defeat Republicans at the polls.
