One would think that Biden’s team would have already figured out how they would respond to questions about his abortion policies, but apparently, they haven’t quite gotten around to it yet. Apparently, when you have the activist media on your side, you don’t have to worry about any real scrutiny.
During a Wednesday press conference, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki attempted to dodge a reporter’s question on the Mexico City policy, which prohibits foreign organizations from receiving U.S. funding to provide abortions and the Hyde Amendment, which disallows the use of federal funds to provide abortions. EWTN reporter Owen Jensen asked Psaki about these “two big concerns for pro-life America.”
“What is President Biden planning on doing on those two items right now,” Jensen asked. Psaki’s response was rather bizarre and referenced the president’s Catholic faith.
“Well, I think we’ll have more to say on the Mexico City Policy in the coming days,” Psaki responded, “but I will just take the opportunity to remind all of you that he is a devout Catholic and somebody who attends church regularly.”
“He started his day attending church with his family this morning,” she continued. “But I don’t have anything more for you on that.”
What exactly does Biden’s Catholicism have to do with his policy on abortion? Absolutely nothing, considering that the church expressly forbids the practice. Why does Psaki think the nation cares if he’s at church when the topic is abortion?
Your guess is as good as mine.
But for some reason, activist media outlets have frequently touted Biden’s Catholic faith, using it as one of their selling points as they persuaded Americans to vote for him. But, considering the fact that the Catholic Church’s pro-life position is very clear, it might not be the best way to frame his position on the issue.
Biden previously indicated that he was not a fan of the Mexico City policy and the Hyde Amendment and stated that he would work to reverse both. Of course, it’s not like we actually need Psaki or Biden to tell us what their policy will be regarding abortion, right?
Both Biden and Harris are staunchly pro-abortion, which means they will do their best to increase the number of aborted children. They will ensure that Planned Parenthood will get as much funding as the administration can get away with.
Moreover, it seems likely that the Biden administration will attempt to meddle with states that have chosen – and will choose in the future – to pass legislation designed to limit abortion. While she was running for the Democratic presidential nomination, Harris indicated that if she were president, she would require states to run any potential abortion legislation by her before voting on it.
Biden may not take an approach quite as totalitarian as his vice president, but it would not be a shock if he tried to take action to make it more difficult for states to determine their own abortion policies. Legal battles over this type of overstep could very well be in the future, which is yet another reason why the Supreme Court is no longer filled with activists instead of judges thanks to former President Donald Trump. Still, the battle will still need to be fought over the next four years as the far-left is gung-ho about preserving abortion.
