The Democrats’ Fictitious Impeachment Debacle Part II Has Just Begun

Well, we already knew it was going to happen, didn’t we? The Democrats, true to their word, just started the process of dragging the nation through yet another impeachment spectacle. On Monday morning, three House Democrats filed paperwork to begin the proceedings.

The Hill reported:

A trio of House Democrats close to leadership on Monday introduced a single article of impeachment against President Trump, charging him with inciting a mob of his supporters to carry out a violent attack on the Capitol in a bid to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory.

The article, co-authored by Reps. David Cicilline (R-I.), Ted Lieu (Calif.) and Jamie Raskin (Md.), states that Trump engaged in high crimes and misdemeanors by ‘willfully inciting violence against the Government of the United States.’

That’s right. The Democrats plan to impeach Trump by pretending he is culpable for the riots that transpired at the U.S. Capitol.  And how do they plan to do this? By using remarks Trump made and deceptively claiming that they drove the rioters to violence.

The impeachment article claims that President Trump inspired the participants in the riots to storm the building. The lawmakers wrote:

[I]ncited by President Trump, members of the crowd he had addressed, in an attempt to … interfere with the Joint Session’s solemn constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential election, unlawfully breached and vandalized the Capitol, injured and killed law enforcement personnel, menaced Members of Congress, the Vice President and Congressional personnel, and engaged in other violent, deadly, destructive, and seditious acts.

The document continued, falsely claiming that “President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transfer of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated that she would move forward with a vote on impeachment if Vice President Mike Pence and Trump’s cabinet refuses to invoke the 25th Amendment to oust Trump.

Yet, any effort to impeach Trump would carry on until after he is already out of office. This means that the Democrats are going to try impeaching him when he’s no longer president. As I argued recently, this move is far more likely to harm the Democrats than Republicans. (See: I Support the Democrats’ Effort to Impeach President Trump and so Should You)

While the riots were not a good look for the right, the nation is still watching both sides. The impeachment effort will undoubtedly appeal to those already on the far-left. But the rest of the country, including moderates and centrists, will view this move as an unnecessary exercise in virtue signaling. It is the type of behavior that could lead, in part, to GOP victories in Congress in 2022 and could even carry on into 2024.

However, it is worth noting that the Democrats will also use impeachment to distract from the other parts of their agenda. They aren’t just using this process as a political attack, they will also use it as a smokescreen, a red herring designed to distract from their pursuit of policies that will further strengthen the government.

In light of this, we cannot allow them to divert our focus to their ill-fated attempt to remove Trump from office after he has already left office. It is essential that conservatives keep their eyes on the ball and stay on the offense. We’ve already spent too much time on defense already, haven’t we?
