Sen. Ted Cruz is known for his brutal clapbacks on Twitter. But on Sunday, he savaged Fox News Host and failed debate moderator Chris Wallace for making remarks about Cruz’s insistence on investigating allegations of voter fraud.
Even before Election Day, it was clear that the presidential election would be contested and would likely go to court. Both Trump’s and Biden’s teams were mobilizing for the inevitable legal battle that has been playing out on the airwaves and social media since Nov. 3.
Sen. Cruz is one of many who are calling for recounts in states where the vote was close and investigations into instances of possible voter fraud. On “Fox News Sunday,” Wallace chided the senator, likening his defense of Trump to Japanese soldiers who refused to surrender after World War II had ended.
On his show, Wallace said:
“It would seem to me that Republicans on Capitol Hill have a role to play in this, a very few of them have said ‘look, you pursue your legal options but damp down the rhetoric,’ like Mitt Romney, like Pat Toomey. There are a lot who are just silent, and there are some, I mentioned Ted Cruz, who are like the Japanese soldiers who come out 30 years after the end of the war and out of the jungle and say, ‘Is the fight still going on?’”
Cruz responded to Wallace’s comments, bringing up his pathetic performance as the moderator of the first presidential debate between Trump and Biden.
“Chris Wallace, who beclowned himself with a shamefully biased debate performance—universally panned—continues to demonstrate his rank partisanship. Urging that we follow the law & that election recounts be actually completed is not somehow undermining democracy,” Cruz tweeted.
Of course, Cruz is right. Wallace showed himself to be a partisan hack during the debate when he teamed up with former Vice President Joe Biden to take on Trump. The president rightly noted that he was debating two opponents during that spectacle. It seems that Wallace isn’t even trying to hide it anymore — and why should he? Wallace knows that the corporate press is in full agreement with him.
Regardless of how the election turns out, we can expect to see more of this. Over the past four years, members of the establishment media threw off all pretense of objectivity and launched a full-out assault against the president and those who support him. They aren’t going to stop now, and the conservative movement better be ready to push back harder.
