It looks like Twitter’s attempt to censor the New York Post’s story on Hunter Biden’s business may have backfired in more ways than one. Not only did their attempt to suppress the story draw more attention to the contents of “laptop from hell,” it also gave the news outlet a significant bump in followers. 

The Post reported on Friday that they “gained nearly 190,000 new Twitter followers while it was locked out of its primary account by the social media giant.” The author noted that this number “represents a 10.6 percent increase in just about two weeks.”

The increase occurred over the duration that Twitter had the account locked, preventing it from posting any new content. The company took this action to further prevent the spread of the bombshell story.

After a two-week face off with the news outlet, and a brutal beating in the U.S. Senate, Twitter relented, restoring the news outlet’s account. The company is also allowing users to share the story once again. 

Twitter originally stated that they blocked the sharing of the story because it violated their terms and conditions regarding the posting of “hacked information.” Of course, the company never provided any evidence that this story went against its terms and conditions, because there was none. The information upon which the story was based was taken directly from Hunter Biden’s hard drive. 

The company recently posted a series of tweets announcing that it was revising its “Hacked Materials Policy” and “updating our practice of not retroactively overturning prior enforcement.” 

As one of the few high-profile conservative news outlets, the New York Post appears to have benefited from Twitter’s attempt to squelch one of its stories. It appears that the news about former Vice President Joe Biden’s son is unlikely to influence the result of the presidential election, but in the end, it increased the news outlet’s reach, which is surely not what the progressive powers-that-be at Twitter intended. 

The FBI is currently investigating Hunter Biden and his dealings with the Chinese government. One of his former business partners, Tony Bobulinski recently came forward to confirm that the emails found on Biden’s laptop were genuine. He also stated that despite his previous statements to the contrary, the former vice president was aware of his son’s shady business dealings. 

While the investigation will not be concluded before the election, it has the potential to become another black mark on the Biden legacy.
