Well, this is a fun one. A House Republican introduced a resolution calling for the removal of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) due to her lack of “mental fitness.”
Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) introduced the measure on Monday. The day before, he took to Twitter to announce his reasons for doing so. “It’s clear that Nancy Pelosi does not have the mental fitness to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he wrote. “I’m introducing a resolution to push for her removal.”
He continued, asserting that “Nancy Pelosi’s unwillingness to abide by the Constitution, combined with her recent actions, call into question her own mental fitness. It’s critical that the House of Representatives demand her removal from the line of succession.”
Pelosi, 81, is third in the line of succession for the presidency should the president and vice president die.
Fox News, who obtained a copy of Collins’ resolution, reported that it states the speaker “is unable to adequately serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives and should therefore be removed from her position.” It continues, noting that Pelosi “has spent the majority of the House of Representative’s time pursuing baseless and fruitless investigations” against President Donald Trump and members of his administration. This would also include last year’s failed impeachment fiasco in which House Democrats tried to remove the president from office.
The resolution also points to a number of the speaker’s actions as proof of her lack of “mental fitness.” Collins referenced the time she “ripped up the State of the Union speech” that President Trump delivered earlier this year. It also mentions that Pelosi “visited a shuttered hair salon in San Francisco where she received a blow-out without wearing a mask in violation of San Francisco’s laws concerning the coronavirus,” and then “cast blame on the salon’s owner for ‘setting her up.’”
But that’s not all. In the document, Collins insists that “over her tenure of her speakership, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has started to demonstrate a decline in mental fitness, calling into question her ability to adequately serve the House of Representatives and the American people.”
The representative even pointed out that while she was participating in an interview with ABC News, the speaker “appeared confused and exhibited bizarre behavior” by “blurting out randomly ‘Good Morning, Sunday morning.’”
While this story is rather hilarious, there is absolutely no chance that House Republicans will be able to unseat Nancy Pelosi by questioning her mental acuity. The fact that the Democratic presidential nominee is leading in the polls despite not being able to chain more than two sentences together without getting confused shows that Pelosi isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Perhaps this is all the more reason for the GOP to ensure that they do not lose both chambers of Congress.
