Officers with the Dover Police Department in Delaware arrested a man for pulling a firearm on pro-life protesters standing outside of a Planned Parenthood center. 31-year-old Jerome Aniska is also accused of making a “threatening statement” to the activists protesting the facility.
The police responded on Friday morning to calls from a gathering of pro-life activists demonstrating in front of the Planned Parenthood center in Dover. The police investigation states that Aniska “engaged with the pro-life demonstrators that were on the public sidewalk and an argument ensued.”
According to the Dover Police Department’s press release, the suspect “pulled out a black handgun and made a threatening statement to the group.”
Officers apprehended Aniska at the scene and charged him with two counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of terroristic threatening, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. He was released on a $26,000 unsecured bond.
So far, it is not known what started the altercation between Aniska and the pro-life protesters that led to the brandishing of the firearm. This is not the first time that the suspect has run afoul of the law. In 2009, he was arrested for graffiti in Newark, New Jersey.
Pro-life activists can be subject to ill-treatment by civilians and even the police, especially if they happen to reside in left-leaning areas. Three weeks ago, pro-life protesters in Washington, D.C. were arrested for writing messages in chalk on the sidewalk outside of a Planned Parenthood center. Metro Police officers took these two individuals into custody despite the fact that they had engaged in the same activity on other weekends.
While violence against pro-life activists has not become commonplace, it is still an area of concern. Right now, thousands of progressive agitators are rioting and looting across the country without facing any serious consequences. Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in American politics and it wouldn’t be shocking to see more people like Aniska who are willing to threaten violence against those using their First Amendment rights to advocate for life.
