CNN’s Jim Sciutto was on Anderson Cooper’s show last night talking about the Susan Rice story by Eli Lake when he made a very strange comment regarding the story’s legitimacy.
Check this out:
Maybe it’s just me, but since when is it a reporter’s role to determine what is and what is not a legitimate story? Given the Obama administration’s history of weaponizing the federal government against political opponents (IRS) and journalists (AP, James Rosen), it is not out of the realm of possibility they’d use intelligence gathering for political purposes as well.
Susan Rice very well may have had sufficient reason to request names be unmasked. We don’t know. Yet, there is nothing wrong with attempting to find out while still being able to report on the FBI investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and any possible collusion with Trump team members.
Sciutto has no business deciding what is and what is not legitimate news. Be a reporter, sir. Leave the pontificating to the opinion journalists.
