Ted Cruz To Friends: I'm Interested In Being Attorney General

Two days ago, Bloomberg Reporter, Jennifer Jacobs tweeted that Texas Senator Ted Cruz is being considered as Attorney General in the Trump administration.

According to The Hill, Ted Cruz has told friends he’s interested in the job:

Ted Cruz has told confidants he’s interested in serving as attorney general in the Trump administration, according to two sources familiar with the conversations.

Speculation that the Texas senator could become attorney general began Tuesday after Cruz met President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Cruz also wandered into the office of Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon for an impromptu meeting, according to a source close to Bannon.

Cruz may not be the frontrunner for the job, which is a target for others in Trump’s orbit — including Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), an early supporter of the businessman. Cruz, in contrast, memorably fought with Trump while finishing second in the GOP primary.

But Cruz is interested. He’s been deflecting questions in media interviews, but in private, the Texan has told several confidants that he wants the job.

Ironically, Ted Cruz may find it easier to get confirmed than Jeff Sessions. It is not out of bounds to say that Cruz is not particularly well-liked among the bulk his Senate colleagues. Democrats would likely hit the roof at the mention of the idea.

Cruz has the background and experience to be Attorney General. It would be hard for Democrats to argue his qualifications. They’d naturally have an ideological cow, completely forgetting the hyper-partisan Eric Holder.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Ted Cruz always looks at how he can advance his career. Perhaps he thinks stepping outside the Senate and into the office the Attorney General for four years will pad his resume. He wouldn’t be wrong.
