John Kasich Runs From His Own Record

In February of 2013, John Kasich decided Jesus told him to expand the medicaid portion of Obamacare in Ohio. As the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported,

Gov. John Kasich included the much-anticipated announcement in his two-year budget proposal Monday. The move makes Ohio one of a growing number of Republican-led states to fulfill an option under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to expand Medicaid to those who earn up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level.”

Kasich noted that the contribution of federal dollars for extending medicaid “makes great sense for the state of Ohio.” He wanted Obamacare and anyone who challenged him had Jesus thrown in their face.

But the Ohio legislature was having none of it. In April of 2013, the Ohio legislature stripped Kasich’s plan to expand Obamacare in the state from the budget.

Kasich, however, used his line item veto to make sure Obamacare was funded in the state.

Got that? Kasich decided to accept the Obamacare deal. The legislature in Ohio refused and put in a budgetary provision that would have prohibited Kasich from expanding Obamacare’s medicaid provisions. Kasich then used the line item veto on that prohibition and thereafter accepted the Obamacare deal.

In October of 2013, Kasich began the expansion of Obamacare into Ohio, which makes today very interesting. Speaking to a group of New Hampshire voters, Kasich said the legislature should get to decide on medicaid. You read that right. Kasich thinks the legislature should make the decision on what to do with medicaid — suddenly pretending his legislature told him not to expand it and he overrode their decision with a veto.

Here’s Kasich in his own words today directly contradicting his own actions:

Maybe Jesus made him do it.
