Sources who wish to remain anonymous have told the Washington Post that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz has begun scheduling witnesses to review draft sections of his long-awaited report on FISA Abuse during the 2016 presidential election. Those individuals who are named in the report and their lawyers are allowed the opportunity to view the sections which pertain to them before it is released to the public. Considering the fact that Horowitz delivered his completed draft to Attorney General William Barr exactly two months ago, I would have assumed this process had been completed a long time ago. On October 24, Horowitz sent out a letter to lawmakers informing them that he was nearing completion. According to the Post:
Several witnesses have been scheduled or are in talks to review sections of the report dealing with their testimony in the next two weeks, the people said on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. That could mean public release is imminent, though the witnesses will be allowed to submit feedback — which could spark more investigative work and slow down the process.
The particulars for each witness’s review were not immediately clear and in some cases were still being negotiated. The inspector general’s office will probably offer relatively short windows for witnesses to submit feedback and take other steps to prevent leaks, as it often does in sensitive and high-profile cases.
Given that Thanksgiving is two weeks away and there are reviews scheduled “in the next two weeks,” it looks like hopes of a pre-holiday release have been dashed.
The authors write that “the report’s findings also will mark a major public test of Attorney General William P. Barr’s credibility, given he has previously suggested the FBI’s investigative decisions in the case were problematic.” That sounds almost as if the left is planning to attack Barr’s credibility if they disagree with the conclusions of the report.
Sources have told investigative journalist Sara Carter it will be damning and that it could include at least two criminal referrals. One of those, according to Carter, might have former FBI Director James Comey’s name on it. I posted on that story here. If the report is incriminating to former Obama Administration officials, we probably ought to brace ourselves for the rebel yell that will be sure to follow.
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) has lost patience with the wait and on Tuesday, he sent the following tweet. I think he speaks for many of us.
If FISA Inspector General Horowitz report doesn’t come out next week when they said it would then I will be very disappointed & left to wonder WHAT THE GAME IS?? Is someone at FBI or DOJ tying IGs hands??
