Okay, now, with another frame logged in the books, what had the media all hot and bothered last week??? Well, it began with the NATO leaders meeting in the White House, continued with controversies in D.C. regarding the dire practice of fighting crime, and then culminated in the dastardly practice of an FBI raid on the home and office of John Bolton.
Along the way, more immigrant detention melodramas unraveled, there was desperate praise for Gavin Newsom becoming a “slay queen” on social media, and everyone was upset about Cracker Barrel rebranding.
Once again, it was a competitive contest, and we had to rely on the final judges’ scoring to register the winner. So let’s get to tabulating by tugging on the hip waders, trudging through the muck and mire that is our media complex, and determining who took top (bottom) honors this week.
THE CONTENDERS
Politico – The outlet was bemoaning the fact that donations for the Democrats were drying up. Josh Gerstein was weepy about the illegal alien sexual predator arrested in D.C. On the supposed D.C. “takeover” by Trump, the site was disappointed that the mayor was not fighting back, and tried to inspire protests against fighting crime. They actually were raving about Gavin Newsom’s social media output.
NBC News – In what has become a weekly tradition, Kristen Welker was shamed by JD Vance delivering cold facts. The network was bothered that some politicians were targeted with charges of mortgage fraud by the man THEY targeted for mortgage fraud. Ken Dilanian, of all people, fretted over the weaponization of the intel community. There was the usual attempt to generate sympathy for illegal alien day workers being illegally hired at Home Depot parking lots.
New York Times – Peter Baker continued his crusade against fighting crime in D.C., by moving from saying there was no crime to now saying the troops were not properly in the crime areas. The paper claimed NATO leaders were forcing peace deal security guarantees, despite that being specifically what the administration called for after the summit with Putin. A piece on President Trump wanting to have the Smithsonian tone down the woke negativity was said to be an attack on diversity and dehumanizing people of color.
CNN – Brian Stelter laughably complained that a “MAGA personality” dominated a White House briefing and Trump has arranged for a sympathetic press corps – while he never complained about the support the press gave Biden. Abby Phillip said the European leaders rushed to the White House to protect Zelensky from being bullied. Dana Bash was confused as to why the National Guard cannot rush into any city it chooses, unlike Washington, D.C. Wolf Blitzer saw a scary military vehicle outside the Capitol, even though it was our military. Edward Isaac-Dovere said Trump lied about polls showing Newsom was unpopular; he was provided 30 polls showing him underwater. Audie Cornish claimed Trump is making people drop out of dating websites.
THE WINNER
MSNBC
While it was close at the finish, the network edged out the competition on the sheer strength of consistent bat-crap lunacy.
Because NBC News is forcing the departure, the channel announced it was rebranding at some point in the near future, to the obtuse “MS-NOW” name.
During the announcement, “Morning Joe" attempted to sound excited over the name change. Panelist Molly Jong-Fast then said she had no idea the first two letters of the network stood for Microsoft.
And for another gem from Jong-Fast, she said the Democrats could regain popularity by promoting MORE candidates like AOC and Mamdani. (Please, do this!)
Lawrence O’Donnell “proved” there was no crime in Union Station inside the nation’s capital because the 1939 film “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” showed no U.S. troops stationed in that film.
Jonathan Capehart called people “snowflakes” for focusing on the Cracker Barrel rebrand – forgetting his own network was raging about the Sydney Sweeney jeans commercial.
Michael Steele hosted a conspiracy panel that surmised the crime-fighting in D.C. is a method to control the mid-term elections.
And as a fitting send-off, Christina Greer was on to completely trash the United States, in her bid to ensure the Democrats are never taken seriously again.
