Progressive Ideology Hijacked Leftist Women’s God-Given Instincts

There is a question floating around conservative circles that makes polite society squirm, which is usually how you know it is worth asking. It went viral again as it was posed on X in November.

Why do so many modern liberal women speak with open hostility toward Christianity while extending sympathy, or at least silence, toward Islam? Not cultural Muslims living quietly in America. Not neighbors or coworkers. The ideology itself, especially its fundamentalist expressions that are openly hostile to women’s rights, autonomy, and safety.

That question is not hateful. It is not ignorant. It is observant.

Anyone who has bothered to read basic reporting from Iran, Afghanistan, or parts of the Middle East knows the score. Women beaten for showing hair. Girls barred from school. Forced marriages. Honor killings. Legal systems where a woman’s testimony is worth half of a man’s.

This is not fringe misinformation. This is documented reality. And yet, the loudest voices screaming about patriarchy, oppression, and “toxic masculinity” fall strangely quiet when those realities come up. Or worse, they deflect, excuse, or scold anyone who notices.

So what is going on here?

The concept that explains it best is something many conservatives have started calling toxic empathy. Empathy unmoored from truth. Compassion divorced from wisdom. Feelings elevated above facts. Empathy itself is not the problem. Empathy is good. Christianity invented it as a moral virtue long before it became a hashtag. The problem is empathy that has been weaponized, redirected, and inflated until it overrides common sense and moral clarity.

When empathy becomes the highest authority, it no longer asks whether something is good or true. It only asks who looks like the victim and who can be labeled the oppressor.

Christianity, especially biblical Christianity, makes moral demands. It talks about sin. It talks about self-denial. It talks about authority that does not bend to personal feelings. That is offensive to a culture built on self-definition and personal autonomy. Islam, in progressive circles, gets a pass not because it is gentle, but because it is categorized as “the other.” Criticizing it feels politically dangerous. Defending it feels virtuous, even when the facts say otherwise.

This is not about theology. It is about narrative.

Progressive ideology teaches people to sort the world into power hierarchies. Oppressor and oppressed. Majority and minority. West and non-West. Christianity, being foundational to Western civilization, gets cast as the villain by default. Islam, being associated with non-Western cultures, gets treated as fragile and untouchable, regardless of its actual doctrines or outcomes.

That is where toxic empathy comes in. It demands allegiance to feelings over facts, narratives over reality.

There is another uncomfortable layer to this conversation, and yes, it is sensitive. But truth usually is.

Many progressive women have delayed or rejected family formation entirely. Fewer children. Later marriages. Often none at all. That is not an insult. It is a sociological fact supported by mountains of data. According to this NBC News poll

Gen Z women who voted for Harris ranked having children as the second-least important thing in their personal definition of success.

When you remove family as the primary outlet for nurturing, devotion, and sacrifice, those instincts do not disappear. They get redirected.

Women were designed by God to nurture. That instinct is powerful. When it is rooted in the home, it builds families, communities, and stable societies. When it is untethered from that foundation, it latches onto abstract causes. Movements. Ideologies. Hashtags. Political crusades.

You can see it everywhere. The emotional ferocity with which some women defend abortion, not as a tragic necessity but as a moral good. The way activism becomes identity. The way dissent is treated as heresy. These are not reasoned positions. They are emotional commitments.

Christianity challenges that by calling women, and men, to ordered loves. God first. Family second. Community next. Self last. That hierarchy is deeply threatening to a culture built on self-expression and personal sovereignty.

So Christianity must be dismantled. Mocked. Redefined. Neutralized.

Islam, by contrast, is rarely examined honestly in progressive spaces because honest examination would require moral judgment. And moral judgment has been declared the ultimate sin. The irony is painful. The same activists who recoil at the phrase “wives submit to your husbands,” often misrepresented to begin with, will bend over backward to avoid condemning systems where all women submit to all men, enforced by violence and law.

Toxic empathy does not protect women. It abandons them. It teaches people to ignore reality if reality disrupts the preferred narrative. It trains a generation to nurture ideas instead of people, causes instead of children, feelings instead of truth. And it leaves us with a culture that cannot answer simple questions honestly.

Christianity is not the enemy of women. It built the very concept of women having inherent worth. It protects families. It anchors empathy in truth. The problem is not that progressive women care too much. It is that they have been taught to care without discernment.

Empathy without truth is not love. It is kindness that cannot heal.
