Separating the Loonies From the Crazies

Ever since the 28-year-old firebrand from the Bronx, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, won the Democratic primary stunning long time Congressman Joe Crowley in the process, the Democratic Party has gone full socialist.  After all, DNC Chairman Thomas Perez crowned her the future of the Democratic Party.  And one of the planks her socialist wet dream platform is the abolition of ICE.

In short order, Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)- all Senators and all with visions of the Oval Office dancing in their heads come 2020- have jumped on the bandwagon.  The motivating factor for this push to abolish ICE itself emanates from a manufactured “crisis” more readily defined as “propaganda” involving separating children at the border from their illegal immigrant parents.  In essence, the Left’s biggest bogeyman is now ICE since the Russian collusion hoax has bit the dust.  Move over, Russia; the real enemy is ICE.

Despite the frenzy of jumping on that dumpster fire known as “Abolish ICE,” there was one lone Senator crying in the woods- Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).  She warned that the idea may be popular in the New York 14th and probably some more socialist strongholds, but maybe not so popular elsewhere.

Perhaps, Ms. Duckworth was onto something.  Since the trend began, a Politico-Morning Consult poll showed that overall, only about 25% of respondents supported abolishing ICE.  Naturally, the support was highest among Democrats where 43% say they want to abolish ICE.  A majority of Republicans (79%) and independents (54%) want to keep ICE.

Now comes word that the three stooges of the movement- Representatives Marc Pocan of Wisconsin, Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Adriano Espaillat of New York- have introduced the Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement System Act in the House.  This act would cause the formation of a committee to look into ICE functions and eventually transfer those functions to other agencies within the government, thus abolishing ICE and removing it from the Department of Homeland Security.

In his statement introducing the bill, the righteous Mr. Pocan said:

President Trump’s blanket directive to round up and target all undocumented immigrants underscores the unchecked power which ICE has used to terrorize our communities. From conducting raids at garden centers and meatpacking plants to targeting families outside churches and schools, the president is using ICE as a mass-deportation force to rip apart the moral fabric of our nation.

Democrats introduce stupid bills in Congress all the time.  Sometimes they die in committee and often the Republican leadership does not even qualify the stupidity by affording the bill a vote on the House floor.  Things may be different this time.

Instead, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has signaled that he would allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote.  Majority Whip Steven Scalise said:

Democrats have been trying to make July 4th about abolishing ICE, which is a radical, extreme position that would lead to open borders and undermine America’s national security. I think it’s the wrong approach. I think everyone ought to be on record about where they stand on that issue.

And indeed every member of Congress should stand up and vote on this issue.  Every Congressman and woman should let the American public and their constituents know where they stand even when a snowball in hell has a better chance of survival than passage of the bill.

But, now the plot thickens.  In a joint statement by the bill’s authors and biggest boosters, they now say:

We know Speaker [Paul] Ryan is not serious about passing our ‘Establishing a Humane Immigration Enforcement System Act,’ so members of Congress, advocacy groups, and impacted communities will not engage in this political stunt. If Speaker Ryan puts our bill on the floor, we plan to vote no and will instead use the opportunity to force an urgently needed and long-overdue conversation on the House floor.

Get that?  Allowing a vote on a bill they wrote, sponsored and introduced is a “political stunt” on the part of Republicans in Congress.  McCarthy and Scalise exposed the Democrats for the frauds they are.  Not only is their proposal insanity, they lack the integrity to stand behind the insanity they produced.

So, if any Democrat voted for the bill, it would reveal how out-of-touch they are with reality.  And if they vote against it, they are revealed as unprincipled hypocrites.  In either scenario, we see that in reality the Democrats stand for very little beyond (1) manufacturing a “crisis”, (2) taking advantage of said “crisis,” and (3) not even standing behind the solution to the “crisis” proposed by their own, no matter how stupid or outrageous the “solution.”

This is nothing new among Democrats.  They often support or vote for things before they don’t vote for things (thanks, John Kerry).  A House vote would have revealed them for what they are- hypocritical charlatans and pretty damn bad poker players.

Just remember… it’s always for the children.
