The political world is all ga-ga over the New York primary victory of avowed socialist Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez in the 14th Congressional District.  Let’s give credit where credit is due.  Although the primary was a rather low turnout affair, Ocasio- Cortez did win by a rather large margin over an entrenched leader in the Democratic Party and many considered to be the next in line after Nancy Palsi retires, implodes or goes in for a new battery at the robotics factory.  Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by Joe Crowley 10-1 which kind of negates that Democratic theory that big money in politics guarantees a win.  Good for her; most of her money was raised by small donations and she refused money from lobbyists.

After her victory, Ocasio-Cortez said:

The Democratic Party takes working-class communities for granted; they take people of color for granted. The party assumes that we’re going to turn out no matter how bland or half-stepping (their) proposals are.

OK… nobody here going to argue that the Democrats take large swaths of the population for granted- working class families, minorities, women, people in Kansas or the Dakotas etc.  And let us give credit to Ocasio- Cortez for living the American dream- rising from bartender a year ago to being the next representative from the New York 14th- something that can only happen in America and not a hell hole socialist country which Ms. Ocasio-Cortez envisions for America.

The problem was that Crowley took this position for granted and the wise Latina pounced much like an upstart named Dave Brat surprised Eric Cantor in Virginia a few years ago.  Crowley was so confident that he actually skipped a debate.  And Crowley’s misstep has the Democrats scrambling.  If she is the harbinger of things to come, the last time that Party veered so far left, they gave us the likes of Hubert Humphrey and George McGovern, so speaking as a conservative Republican, I say keep them coming!

Her platform is the usual wet dream of socialists everywhere:

• nationalization of health care and a single-payer system;
• abolishment of ICE;
• impeach President Trump (shhh… they’re not allowed to say that publicly);
• Medicare for all;
• a universal jobs guarantee;
• free college tuition;
• paid family and sick leave;
• housing as a human right;
• ending the war on drugs;
• “demilitarization” of the police;
• free prisoners;
• open borders;
• an infrastructure overhaul concentrating on green energy;
• 100% renewable energy sources by 2035;
• ending corporate donations, and;
• a “peaceful economy,” whatever the hell that means.

Lost in the agenda is how she intends to pay for all this since all the money extorted from the “rich” to fund these programs will not, especially since the “rich” have the means to set up nice accounts and homes outside the United States.  If she and her ilk ever got their way, I am sure the populations of the Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Bermuda would increase.

But, let’s face it.  Ocasio- Cortez, besides embracing the socialist vision for America, also knows her politics.  Specifically, she knows her Democratic politics since she was not shy about employing identity politics.  She painted Crowley, who has served his constituents (they kept returning him to Congress) apparently well as an out-of-touch white dude who moved to DC and sent his kids to Virginia schools.  In other words, the white dude just doesn’t fit in in this Latino-black-Muslim district.

Plus, she’s kind of loony.  At least as a state representative, Kelli Ward in Arizona was investigating constituent complaints about alleged chemtrails which got her labeled a loon out there.  Ocasio-Cortez does not have an excuse.  The professional community organizer (yes- another one of those) has stated that Customs Enforcement officials are running black sites along the Mexican border where human rights abuses are occurring.  She blamed Crowley when tear gas was used on protesters in Puerto Rico (note: Crowley represents a district in the Bronx and Queens, not Puerto Rico).  Crowley got the message and towards the end of the campaign, he called ICE a fascist organization.  Too little, too late, Joe!

And, she is most likely an anti-Semite.  Now, not everyone who speaks out against Israel is an anti-Semite.  Some are just ignorant of geopolitical facts while others are just brainwashed into believing Israelis are evil and Palestinians are peace-loving people.  But, the veracity with which this candidate has spoken out against Israel and for Hamas has some eyebrows being raised.  This is a woman who ran on a campaign of sticking up for the working class citizens of the district, but it appears their concerns are on equal footing with those of Hamas.

She justified her defense of the Palestinians with this false moral equivalency:  “My background is as an educator, an organizer and an activist.”  She was “compelled on moral grounds, because I can only imagine if 60 people were shot and killed in Ferguson, or if 60 people were shot and killed in the West Virginia teacher strikes.”  Well, teachers are not terrorists and the jury is out on Black Lives Matter.  Nor, did West Virginia teachers set kites on fire or dig tunnels into anyone’s backyard.  And the protesters in Ferguson were more concerned with looting stores for Pampers, booze and wigs.

She claims that many Jewish and Muslims in the district called to thank her for speaking out.  Of course, she can’t name one of the 29,000 estimated Jews in the district.  Then there is the case of a huge Ocasio-Cortez supporter, Thomas Lopez-Pierre (what’s with the hyphenated names?).  He is well known in New York circles for being a bigot and an anti-Semite.  In public forums, Mr. Lopez-Pierre has used the “N” word to describe blacks and constantly rails against “greedy Jewish landlords.”  No doubt, he has his copy of The Elders of Zion tucked under his pillow at night.  He’s bragged about being with the Ocasio-Cortez campaign and how many flyers he passed out.  He showed up at her celebration party.

But, she isn’t a wise Latina for nothing.  Actually, she prefers to be called Latinx so I guess she doesn’t know her gender either.  After the pictures of Lopez-Pierre showed up on social media, she took to Twitter with this lame tweet:

Thank you for this opportunity and your graciousness here. No idea who this guy is, hundreds of folks walked into the hall open to the public last night. I absolutely denounce any such bigoted and reprehensible statements.

She denounces his statements, not him.  In other words, she’ll take his support, but just shut up.  And yeah… she didn’t know who the guy was and he just happened to walk in off the street.  OK, right.  Is the Brooklyn Bridge for sale also?

The slobber from the fine folks at MSNBC’s Morning Joe hadn’t dried on her yet before she was giving interviews to Steven Colbert and Hollywood started to drool over her candidacy.  She received the endorsement of Ava DuVernay.  The Oscar-nominated director tweeted, in response to Trump’s response to Max Maxine Waters: “Ignore women of color replacing the old guard at your own peril.  Three words: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”  The day she won the primary, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson of Comedy Central’s Broad City tweeted out: “Ocasio2018 is Broad City official!  Raking in endorsements till the last dang minute.”  I haven’t heard the word “dang” used since Yosemite Sam.

Former New York Times executive editor, Jill Abramson, tweeted out:  “Kind of pisses me off that @nytimes is still asking Who is Ocasio-Cortez? when it should have been covering her campaign…”

Let’s face it: in a district where Republicans rarely run a candidate and where except for a 10-year period in the 1980’s due to redistricting a Republican has not represented since 1926, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be the next Congresswoman from the 14th District of New York.  But, its a sad state of affairs that a person endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, People for Bernie, MoveOn.org and Black Lives Matter will further sully, soil and pollute the halls of Congress.  Then again, Maxine Waters is still there.  Together, they’d make a great comedy show so I guess there is always that for solace.
