As RedState has covered, 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver died when a 15-year-old illegal alien killed her in Aurora, Colorado, in July 2024. He took his mother's car without permission, loaded it up with his friends, raced it through a neighborhood at 90 miles an hour, and then T-boned the young woman going through an intersection (with the right of way). Her family had to take her off life support two days later.
This is not an infrequent thing anymore for illegals to do. Nor is it uncommon when they get released onto the street instead of going to prison. It's infuriating, and tragic, and wrong. For Ms. Weaver's family, I doubt that there are enough adjectives in the dictionary to encompass their grief.
Amy Padden, District Attorney for Arapaho County, was just elected and became the first Democratic DA there in 60 years. The fact that Arapaho County is overwhelmingly blue, and has been for some time, seems to be a disconnect in that regard. But she got elected, and what she has done in this case is not only unsurprising but expected.
Letting the illegal alien (who has since applied for asylum, by the way) off without consequence is certainly going to make a lot of people outraged, but in spite of the injustice of it all, one wonders why the people of that county didn't see it coming. So, just to recap, the former DA who was in office at the time of the killing said that the perpetrator would receive no deal and would be tried as an adult. He did not run again in January, and Padden was elected. Addressing the Weaver case, she gave the illegal alien probation and two years of community service. She ordered him to stay in school.
Stay in school, pick up trash along the highway, and sin no more.
This is how you might punish your own kid if he kept sneaking out at night. One would think that killing another human being through irresponsibility, selfishness, and recklessness would have demanded something a little more harsh. But not Amy Padden. Amy Padden is a progressive DA who took campaign money from Bernie Sanders and George Soros. And one of Amy Padden's campaign promises was to never try a child as an adult. I don't know how this could ever make any sense because one would think you'd have to adjudicate on a case-by-case basis. Everything can't be chalked up to youthful indiscretion. Anyway, Amy Padden serves The Cause, and she is a true hardcore dead ender.
And the people of Arapaho County elected her in a landslide. I don't think those voters ever envisioned themselves as the recipients of consequence. Progressives never do. They have their platitudes and abstract beliefs about equity, compassion, and justice, but I don't think they ever expect reality's fallout to land on themselves. If it ever lands at all, it will plop on someone else.
Recent history has demonstrated that DAs and prosecutors from the Soros Brand line of products all behave in lockstep. They're consistent the way Burger King is consistent. You get the same Whopper on the West Coast as you do on the East Coast, and the list of these people is long and distinguished. There was Kim Foxx in Chicago, and San Francisco's Chesa Boudin. You had Larry Krasner, who got impeached in Philadelphia, and Mike Schmidt, who got voted out in Portland. Here in St. Louis, there was Kim Gardner, who refused to prosecute anybody (other than our former Republican governor), and it finally took action from the successor governor's office to pry her out of office and onto the curb.
These people and their actions were all highly publicized, and eventually, most were either recalled or kicked out of office by the election process. Suddenly, after tasting the new Whoppers, customers began to order Big Macs instead. One wonders why the people of Arapaho County decided to eat a hamburger nobody else wanted. But they did. And when you order one off the menu and take the greasy sack at the drive-thru, know that you'll be eating from that same greasy sack for the next four years. Unless you can get the manager to reimburse you for your purchase because its contents gave you tummy trouble.
Hopefully, Padden will face recall, but probably not. At least not anytime soon. She is still new in the office. However, illegal aliens killing Americans is a trend that's going strong, and sadly, it may take a few more instances like the Weaver case to wake the voters up and inspire them to start eating food that is good for you.
