James Clyburn Laughably Says Biden Was Capable to Serve for Next Four Years

James Clyburn (D-SC) told CNN's State of the Union Sunday that Joe Biden could have functioned as president for another four years. This was a case of one liar interviewing another liar about lying. At some point, you have to believe that viewers will wake up and realize that certain news outlets are just full of it.

Host Jake Tapper said:

“With what we’ve seen from President Biden both in that audio, but also throughout 2023, 2024, especially on the debate stage do you think that Joe Biden really would have been able to perform as president all the way through January 2029, when he would have been when he would be 86?”

Clyburn said:

“Yes. I thought that back then. I still think that, but I don’t know that. When people ask me, did I know this or did I know the other? And the fact of the matter is, no, I didn’t. You make my point here. It’s not all about age. I’ve seen people develop Alzheimer’s when they’re in their 30s and 40s. So it’s not about age. It’s about the ability to do the job. And I never saw anything that allowed me to think that Joe Biden was not able to do the job. Just that simple. ”

Mr. Clyburn, it's not that simple, and it's not just about age; it's about performance. And Joe Biden could not perform. The guy interviewing you just wrote an entire book about it. That the president was non compos mentis for most of his term is not a question mark any longer, and the toothpaste isn't going back in the tube. When Francis Gary Powers was shot down, Eisenhower was in a difficult spot. He could either acknowledge the overflights into the USSR or he could deny them and come off as a know-nothing president. So he acknowledged the truth because he knew that the Russians engaged in espionage as well, and that Americans probably expected their government would and should do the same.

Clyburn is in the same spot, but not in the same spot, if you know what I mean. On one hand, he could say that no, he's not stupid and was well aware that Biden was incapacitated. Or on the other hand, he could do what he did and feign ignorance, knowing that only the most foolish of his constituents would actually believe him. At his age, he can do that.

He's 84, and his voters will probably keep voting for him after he's dead. It doesn't matter how stupid this interview with Tapper makes him look, the people who have been sending him to Washington for 30 years are not going to care. Clyburn knows that, I suspect, and he's not going to look like a bimbo to them. There's no political downside for him to basically get up and repeat the line "Joe Biden...tack sharp." There certainly is a political downside for him to say "Joe Biden...skull of oatmeal...and I knew it. I kept quiet because I'm a party loyalist."

When you're in your 17th term, legacy is all that matters. Performance is just another name for a style of art.

You have similar instances of fake ignorance with Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. These two guys were similarly questioned on CNN, hard-hitting journos that they are, and the network accepted the "I never saw nothin'" replies and the "moving forward now" answers to questions that nobody asked.

There won't be any negative fallout for these guys either. Possibly because nobody watches CNN or MSNBC, but nonetheless, it's really sad for the country, because while political leaders have always been oily like these two, the reality that the system has devolved into a high school popularity contest has been exposed. The fact that AOC is actually being floated as a legitimate candidate for the presidency in 2028 confirms that.
